Carter and Allen to the Clips for Mobley and Cassell. Either keep Cassell or work a buyout (excluding him from signing with Boston ). Gets the Nets into a shorter term commitment and saves them $6MM next season and almost $7MM in 2009/10 that can be spent in other areas. Clippers save themselves from a buyout with Cassell and get Carter to help entertain the entertainers in LA.
Clips need to make some kind of move, not so much for this season, but next. Mobley won't get them much at 32 and with that salary. Maggette might opt out after the season. Cassell isn't going to get them much either that's why they are talking buyout. Mobley gives the Nets shooting and salary relief to do some other things. It's not sexy at all, but the deal fits both teams perfectly. And probably reflects Carters true value now.
So that changes the SG position, but now what do you do with the rest of the team? The trade saves money, but it doesn't give the fans any hope of things getting better.

With his current contract and skill set there are probably only 2 or 3 teams that could use Carter (I'm guessing Clips, Knicks and Mavs). This deal makes sense for both teams, and like I said, it's a start.

How do you propose they use that "extra money" to become a better team and make up for the downgrade from Vince to Cat?

At least the full MLE becomes an opption without worrying about luxury tax issues. I rather move Kidd over the summer when he's expiring. Collins will also be expiring. A team like the Bulls will be looking to make a move maybe with Nocioni and Hinrich without the BYC issues. If Krstic can come back strong I have hope for a big rotation with him, Boone, and Williams. Jefferson is solid at SF. Team needs backcourt help. Maybe reunite Kidd with Eddie Jordan in Washington for Arenas and Stevenson?

This season is lost, you lose as much as you can, get the best lotto pick you can, pick the best available player, then address positions after the draft. I'd drive Mobley's value up, then move him in the offseason for another draft/young player. Hey maybe they hold the money until Brooklyn is done, then that in itself is a big selling point for a lot of free agents. Maybe they can parlay a Cassell or Mobley into a young piece with another team.

You look at how you can use the cap space to facilitate other trades and who might be available. The Nets situation is especially tricky since they have to worry a lot about ticket sales for two locations.

I dont know how carter is going to keep selling seats. I dont even remember the last time i saw him dunk...

Fans are unhappy with Carter to say the least. I'm sure they are marketing to the younger crowd since they will be the up and comming Brookyln fans but why can't we market Sean, Marcus or Boone just as high? I really shouldn't say high and Williams though because that's a different market in itself.

I mean Vince always had the 'name brand' working for him, but I think even that's starting to fade; you can only rest on your laurels to a certain extent. See also: Vince Carter and Shaq not in the all-star game. When not even the run-of-the-mill, uninformed, casual NBA fan isn't voting for those guys you know you've reached a grim milestone.

I got a tip online that you just bench a player for a few weeks and then the morale will come down, once his morale hits 50 or 40 they will waive the clause.
