<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>With Rajon Rondo turning an ankle Sunday in Orlando, it seems most likely Damon Stoudamire, agreeing to a buyout with Memphis, ends up in Boston instead of Phoenix or Toronto. But Boston insiders say even a healthy Rondo is leaving the Celtics in a weak position with teams not guarding him down the stretch. Rondo is a poor free-throw shooter, Stoudamire is not (83 percent in his career).

Another intriguing potential free agent could be Chris Andersen, a hustling big man who is applying for reinstatement after a two-year drug suspension. The Hornets control the rights to Andersen (a Joakim Noah/Anderson Varejao type) and you wonder if they'd want to risk disrupting their wonderful chemistry even though coach Byron Scott says the team's bench is weak.

Andersen has become friendly with Garnett and you wonder if the Celtics would want to help their shallow bench if he is reinstated and New Orleans passes on him, though the Hornets might not want to risk Andersen going to a rival like the Spurs.</div>

I'm all for Stoud, but I'm hesitant on Birdman. A sober Chris Andersen from 2-3 years ago - hell yes, he'd fit perfectly. But he hasn't played NBA ball in over a year and he has had drug/drinking problems - we've been down that road with Vin Baker and I don't know if Danny would be willing to walk that fine line for a second time.

I'm not that high on Stoudamire but I guess waiting to see what happens with other PGs could be dangerous, because then we might end up with nothing. No thanks on Birdman for the reasons CelticBalla posted.

I'm sure KG would keep Chris Andersen in check. KG is great at nurturing troubled individuals.

The Celtics should push for Cassell before they settle on Mighty Mouse. Clipperland is a mess right now and I think they are close to blowing it up and doing their best to tank the rest of the way.

I too would like Cassell as a first option, but if all else fails Stoudamire is not bad.

As far as Anderson is concerned, I'd give it a try. It's not like he'll get a big deal, half a year and try to put in a team option or two.

Yes, no question I'd prefer Cassell over Stoudamire. You'd have to be mentally ill to take Damon Stoudamire over Sam I Am. Cassell is perfect for this team. He's a true leader, an extra coach, keeps the locker room loose, can shoot the ball, makes smart decisions, elevates his game in the playoffs, is a bigger guard that can help us defend the likes of Billups/Kidd/etc. in the playoffs, and he is good friends with KG to begin with. He's the ideal veteran point guard to bring in.

But like David_Ortiz said, waiting out on Cassell could be dangerous. While I'd much rather have Cassell over Stoudamire, I'd much rather have Stoudamire than no veteran point guard at all. There is also an unlikely chance that Danny works his magic and swings a deal for a Tyronne Lue or Anthony Johnson at the trade deadline - but that is clearly Plan C.

It'll be very interesting to see how this shakes out.

agreed with all the above. Sam Cassell would be choice #1, Might Mouse would be a good consolation prize.
Birdman would be a huge gamble and not worth it with the chemistry and record the team has.

We still need more production out of the center position when Perk's not in the game (and he commits a lot of fouls). That's something that will definitely need to be addressed come playoff time.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Once Damon Stoudamire clears waivers tomorrow morning, the veteran point guard is expected to sign with the Spurs, according to an NBA source. Spurs guard Tony Parker is out indefinitely with a bone spur in his left heel, according to ESPN.com. The NBA didn't finalize Stoudamire's buyout with the Grizzlies until yesterday morning, and he needs 48 hours to clear waivers. The Celtics have been on the lookout for a veteran point guard and had some interest in Stoudamire. Rumors persist that they have interest in Clippers veteran Sam Cassell, but they don't seem to have the means to make a viable trade offer. Executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge has said he wants to sign "the right veteran point guard" while adding, "We like our roster. We like who we are. We like the chemistry and the way our guys play together."</div>

Sources tell Chris Sheridan of ESPN.com that the Boston Celtics are no longer appearing like a strong suitor for Damon Stoudamire.

Stoudamire hopes to sign with a club after he clears waivers at 6:00 PM EST on Wednesday.

The Raptors, Spurs and Suns are the interested teams, according to sources who spoke with Sheridan.</div>

If there's one thing we can say with certainty, it's that the Birdman knows all about "chemistry". [IMG]
