An underachiever, and bringing him to New Jersey won't change that. Unless you're in the position where you have to take Stro in order to complete some deal, there is no real point in acquiring him. Yeah, he can run the floor, but if Kidd is gone, what's the point?

    Why is Swift an underachiever?

He doesn't know how to play basketball and he has never been able to learn.

Just because he's tall and athletic doesn't mean he's bound to be an NBA legend.

In the article yesterday they mentioned the Nets had to make a move before they could do the Kidd deal to obtain the extra roster spots needed.

What's better than trading Magloire and others for Swift? TRADING COLLINS FOR SWIFT YES!!
Also Redick wants out of Orlando.. shooter anyone?</div>

Wow I would do this in a heart beat, although I also have a penchant for athletic players who can't do anything else but jump. Perhaps Josh Boone's improving post defense would be enough to persuade the more 'traditional-appreciative' basketball fans.

Well it won't help immediately since this would be a one-for-one deal. (And an absolutely ridiclious one at that...).

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (cpawfan @ Jan 31 2008, 09:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Actually, I believe it. Thron has always been bizarrely enamored with Stro.

How does anyone that watched Thron give Jeff McInnis a two year deal not believe he'd go after Not So Swift?</div>

Bizarrely, weirdly true. As the Blazers started to put conditions on the sign and trade for SAR in 2005, the Nets opened discussions with Swift and the Grizz. The Nets were willing to give Swift the full MLE if they couldn't come to an agreement with SAR. Swift agreed and the Grizz were willing to do the deal for a second round pick. Then, the Nets made the deal with SAR and Swift started talks with the Rockets. By the time SAR flunked his physical, Swift had signed with the Rockets.

Now with Boone, SWilliams and hopefully a healthy Krstic, there is virtually no need for Swift. But reading Adrian Wojnarowski tonight, it seems like it has a real shot.

(Of course, maybe the deal is being talked about because of the prospective trading partners for Kidd won't take Collins in some mega deal but would be willing to take on Swift. So the Nets are trying to make that deal first. Probably not but a thought.)

that is my thought, if only because of the timing of this rumour. The sole thing that Thron is focusing on right now is ridding the team of the cancer Jason Kidd. Everything else is secondary.

Isn't there a waiting period for teams to be able to trade away a player they just traded for..?

I think it's two months if the player is in a packaged deal with other players. (Don't hold me to that. I'm not a wiz by any means regarding player management)

Good point. A player cant be traded in a multi player deal for 60 days. He can be traded straight up for another player or draft pick immediately, thus Rasheed Wallace's one game stay in Atlanta before being traded to Detroit.

however, I believe that you can have simultaneous trades. Swift doesn't have to end up on the Nets.

Nets Offering Jason Collins for Stromile Swift
January 31, 2008, 10:16 pm The Nets may be close to trading Jason Collins to Memphis for Stromile Swift, the athletic but underachieving power forward. The Nets were reportedly rebuffed in an earlier attempt to pick up Swift for Jamaal Magloire and are now offering Collins. Swift, 28, will be paid $5.8 million this season and has a player option at $6.2 million for next, a near match for Collins.
