<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>EL SEGUNDO, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers on Friday signed free agent center D.J. Mbenga to a second 10-day contract. The 27-year-old Mbenga, who signed his first 10-day contract with Los Angeles on January 21, averaged 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in four games. Earlier this season, the 7-foot Mbenga averaged 1.2 points and 1.9 points with the Golden State Warriors before being released on January 6. The Congo native also has played with the Dallas Mavericks.</div> http://sportstwo.com/NBA/Story/NBA/1612649
I bet now we sign him for the season, after this one expires. Fisher/Farmar Kobe/Sasha Odom/Walton/Ariza Gasol/Turiaf/Vlad Bynum/Mbenga/Mihm
Why don't the Lakers just get it over with and sign him for the season? You know it's going to happen with this team and their need for depth at the 4/5.

I guess the Lakers are just holding out to some faint hope that maybe somebody better will become available by buyout, trade, and etc.
Very well could be, but they have even more roster space now. They traded off two pieces to their active roster in Critt and Kwame and only got one back. We have roster space if we really need someone else outside of him.
I heard that Kwame contracts was going to be bought off and then he'll sign with the Lakers again? Is this any true?
There'd be no point in buying out Kwame at this point. His deal is off the books at the end of the season.

Like moo2k4 said, he's on his last year, so there's no reason to buy him out. In addition, even if they did buy him out, the lakers aren't allowed to sign him again for a certain period, and I doubt Kwame is going to sit around and wait for that period to pass, when another team can just pick him up right away for the same amount of money the lakers would sign him for
One wild reason why I don't think a buy-out is too far fetched is that on the Grizzlies website, the GM left some comments and commented on every piece of the trade except Kwame Brown. Now, I know Kwame's a bust and all, but maybe Memphis just doesn't want him there? They buy him out and after 30 days, Kwame can sign somewhere else.
