In a post game interview with Sun Sports (the Heat's TV network) RJ said, "Vince is hurting, he has some issues he'll need to take care of later on."

Just to validate for people that weren't sure if he was hurt or just on a fast decline (or both).

Hm, I wonder if his decision to have or not have surgery is affected by the timing of the trade deadline.

It has to be surgery because what else takes 5 months? I know a little rest might help but his hops are gone.

I'm just assuming training camp something happened because he hasn't played well all season.

He has had a subpar season, for sure. But he's had outstanding games, including a whole spate of them when the nets won 8 out of 9 or 9 out of 10 in late December/early January. Six games with 30+; 21 games with 20+, all while the whole offensive emphasis has shifted away from him and towards RJ. Once Boone and Williams became the regular starters, he has once again shown that he's the best pick and roll initiator the Nets have and has set those guys up for numerous dunks or foul shot opportunities (which they, all too often, don't exploit). So while it's fair to criticize his season overall, it's not fair to say he hasn't played well at all this season.

And I've been saying since he came back from the ankle sprain that he is not right physically. You don't lose that much leaping ability that quickly for no reason.

It's probably his ankle. Same thing as with RJ in the past, would be my guess.

Whenever I hear about someone getting a shot before performing on the field I think of the scene in Varsity Blues when Mox sees Lance Harbor getting a shot in his leg and then the coach shuts the door in his face.

Too bad Vince is nowhere near as good as Lance Harbor.

Well if we're unable to trade Carter the good news is that he's not going to be rapidly declining over the next couple of years, the bad news being that he's injury prone as heck. WALSH!!!!

An injury is definitely hurting VC's game, but at some point he is going to need to turn into a spot up shooter anyway. He has the talent, but just needs more discipline with his mechanics.

I'd say they've both been affected by the bug. Carter seems to have more nagging injuries, while Jefferson had two injuries that were around for a while: the ankle, and the thumb/wrist. Taking this into consideration with Vince's injuries in Toronto, I don't think its out of the question to say that Carter is more prone to injury.

Except those injuries with the Raptors happened 5-6 years ago. I think he has shaken of the injury-prone label since then.

Well sure that was some time ago, which is why I find it responsible to merely take it into consideration, and not use it as anything ultimately conclusive. As for shaking off that label with strong play his first year or so in Jersey, he's become increasingly affected by lingering ailments. Recently, last year's playoff run, and this season haven't helped his case so far.
