Here's what our salaries look like:

    Kobe - 3 more years

    Odom - 1 more year

    Gasol - 3 more years

    Walton - 5 more years

    Farmar - 3 more yrs

    Vlad - 3 more years

    Turiaf - 700k (FA)

    Bynum - 2 more years

Say that these guys are our core of players (mentioned above) ... will we be able to keep everyone while signing Bynum and Faramr to their DESERVED contracts?

    say 10 - 12M (already low!!!) for Andrew and 4 - 5M for Farmar?

Bynum's contract will expire a year before Pau's and Kobe's. and a year after Odom.s

Do you think we could re sign Lamar (or trade him for a cheaper, longer contracted player) to around 9 M?

Would Kobe and Pau take a paycut? Gasol from 15.5M to 12M? Kobe from 20M to 17M?

Thoughts? Please state some possible problems we might encounter in signing our young guns and resigning our vets

Would picking up Kwame for 2M or resigning Mihm to 2M a year be better?

BTW, im still hoping that by this time, Critt finds his way back to us LOL imagine farmar and critt sharing the PG duties of the P&G whilst fisher will help out during practice or retire.

It's funny, because the price of being as deep as the lakers are, is that you can't sustain it financially. Guys will start needing to get paid, and then choices will have to be made on who to keep and who to let go. It's all about the luxury tax. Dr Buss wants to avoid as much of it as possible. It will be about $70 million next year. Obvioulsy Buss wants to stay under that threshold, but that's unlikely to happen, and my guess is that he's willing to pay about 2-3 million of the tax if the team is getting deep into the playoffs.

Kobe will not take a paycut and it depends on how Pau plays, but my guess is he will not take a paycut either. We have to extend Bynum, most likely to a max or close to max deal. Because of that, we will have to hold Lamar, let his contract run out, and use that money to extend Bynum. So Lamar is gone for sure... We will have to re-sign Sasha (I hope) at the end of this year, and hope that Mihm just retires. If Mihm doesn't retire, i think there's a good chance we lose sasha. The good thing about Farmar's contract is that it coincides with Fishers contract. When Fish's contract runs out, it will be time to extend Farmar. I think we will get a good deal for Turiaf, because heck, the team did help financially take care for his medical condition, I think he will feel indebted to the franchise.

Mitch is supposedly the king of the salary cap .. so ultimately, I think it's ultra imperative that he find a way to work his magic (no pun intended) again the way he did with Cook's contract, and unload either Luke or Radman's contract. Unloading both is a pipe dream, but if he can just unload one of them, the salary pieces will fit much better for the Lakers and Dr Buss, and hopefully we can hold onto the guys worth holding onto, and sign a bunch of low fillers for the back of the bench.
