ok, I watched the super bowl. I haven't watched a football game--pro or college--in probably about ten years. Now I know why. Boy did this game suck until the final few minutes. Anyway here are some off-the-cuff comments and questions, which I'm hoping someone will help answer. --did I really see Brady flip open the bandage on his arm to reveal a list of plays? Why isn't that illegal? --How do the TV guys get the first down marker (the yellow line I mean) and the down/yardage to appear phantom-like across the field? It's pretty neat that they can insert that electronically, yet it isn't projected on a player or his shoes when he stands on that part of the field. --so the Giants traded about 40 draft picks to get Eli Manning, who (except for the final few minutes) looks like he totally sucks. Yet the Giants get to the superbowl anyway. Does this say anything about how little value draft picks actually have? I mean, how can they possibly have a good team without any draft picks for like five years? --The commercials were overwhelimingly boring and terrible. --at least the NFL broadcasts their HD signal in wide-screen mode. Why can't the NBA do that with League Pass? --finally, someone tell me why this game is popular. --dumpy

The 4th quarter was one of the most exciting 15 minutes I have ever witnessed. As for the game itself, well it was a low scoring game anyways, so yes it was pretty slow at times. Each to their own I guess, but I love watching football

But this was not a normal game either, obviously there is usually more offense except there was a historic CHOKEJOB tonight.
I knew I shouldn't have put in that last comment. I'm really most interested in the other stuff. Is it really common for QBs to bring in a list of plays attached to an arm bandage?

^ Yea, it is. They also have communication chips in their helmets so they can talk over plays with the coach. I'm not going to try and defend this game to a non-football fan. It wasn't the type of high-scoring game that would entice casual viewers. But I absolutely loved it. I appreciated the defensive effort of the first half. I loved the clutchness of Eli in the 4th. I was on edge at the end. It was incredible.

The Giants deserved to win more and were the better team.

Soccer is boring! Other than the phenomenal shape that the participants are in; its as predictable as it comes. Soccer is remedial hockey on painkillers outdoors. Its got all the ill mannered fans that hockey does, the prima donnas and hooligans that NFL WR's and the entire NBA are jealous of, & the coma inducing tendencies of your average round of golf. The NFL is the one sport where the saying thats why you play the game is more than just a saying i.e Most people (myself included) thought the Pats would win convincingly but they did not. As far as the weak justification that Soccer is the worlds most popular sport. Well, that sure say alot for most of the world doesn't it?

I'm a casual football fan and I think this is the best superbowl I've ever seen. Granted I'm only 17 so I haven't really seen that many but even though it was low scoring it was extremely fun to watch. What a great game with a spectacular ending. You're right though Eli Manning does suck ass but they didn't trade away a ton of picks to get him like you said. This Giants team is really based on their pass rush. The pass rush is fantastic (you never see Brady get hit as much as he did tonight) and it makes the rest of the defense a lot better. Obviously it knocks the other team out of their rhythm and gets the QB to throw bad passes and turn it over. On offense they have a bruising running game with Jacobs and Bradshaw. Plaxico has been a great reciever all season and hes a huge mismatch problem for DBs. Eli isn't very good but hes also not too bad. Not a star by any means IMO but when the Giants went on that great run toward the end of the season he wasn't turning it over, and as long as he didn't eff it up the defense, running game, and Plaxico would win the games. Also the rest of their receiving core is very solid with Smith, Toomer, and Boss. This isn't even including Shockey who's a very good TE.
