Kidd Extension an Issue in Trade Talks
February 4, 2008, 7:41 am Jason Kidd might not have demanded a trade if the Nets had agreed to give him an eight-figure, one-year contract extension earlier this season. Writers in cities where he works or might wind up think his continuing desire for one is complicating trade talks. Kidd could sign a one year extension this season or wait til July and ask for a two-year deal. Speculation continues to focus on Dallas as his final destination.

If he really wants out that bad he needs to say he will take a pay cut, but I don't expect him to take one.

Cuban once again mentioned that Dallas isn't looking to deal for Kidd. Still, I have a feeling that its a small smokescreen.

And I don't understand why Kidd won't take a paycut. He's rich as it is, is there a huge difference between 10 mil and 19 mil? Maybe to some, but when you already have plenty of money, are you that desperate for more?

Between all the child support and Joumana probably taking him to the cleaners he's probably looking to make one more score.

I agree. If he's gonna screw us over like that, then we should try our hardest to trade him to a shit team. Like Memphis, Seattle, Minny, or Miami.

I suspect Kidd can veto pretty much anywhere he'd not want to go by virtue of complaining just as much as he has in Jersey.

I do wonder if a Miami trade could be made to work though. Throw Kidd, Shaq and Wade together, and maybe they can sneak into the playoffs and do some damage. If I'm the Nets, my primary benefit would be getting the Heat to give up their expiring contracts and take Carter too. That'd give them a credible chance of getting somewhere and it'd give the Nets a much cleaner slate to rebuild with:

Nets send: Carter, Kidd, Armstrong, Allen
Heat send: Everyone except Wade, Shaq, Blount, Haslem, Luke Jackson (who can't be traded), 1st round pick.

While that's supremely crazy, it does work. And the Nets would have to immediately waive some of the guys they get, they'd get rid of almost all of their deadweight and be in a position to relatively quickly rebuild.

    The Nets
    1- M.Will, J.Will
    2- Cook, Davis
    3- RJeff, Nachbar
    4- S.Will, Swift
    5- Krstic, Boone

OK, OK, I know you Nets fans will look at this and cry, but the truth is you've got gobs of cap space and you'll have two decent draft picks to work with. Cook, S.Will, Boone and M.Will are on rookie deals, and Krstic should be resignable fairly cheap. Other things being equal, you could do a lot worse.

    The Heat
    1- Kidd, Armstrong
    2- Wade, Jackson
    3- Carter, ?
    4- Haslem, Allen
    5- Shaq, Blount

The Heat go out and immediately have to sign the best street free agents they can muster. Since they're ancient anyway, they could load up on guys like Ruben Patterson and try to coax PJ Brown to make a run at it. Put those guys in a seven game series and I don't know that any team would want to play them.

    Sounds good to me, Mike.

Also, I'd like to note that Alex Johnson has a 2 year contract, and was supposedly a coveted player by the Nets...so we could probably keep him. Which I'd be down with.

Also, It's a bonus to trade away those guys and not have to get Blount back.
