so the Nets are currently hanging on to the 8th playoff spot, which would probably make them the worst playoff team in history. Anyhow, just behind them in the standings (in fact, no more than 2 and a half games behind them) are five teams: Charlotte, Philly, Milwaukee, Chicago, Indiana. If the season ended today, they'd have the 7th through 11th picks in the draft, while the Nets would have the 15th. That seems to be a pretty big difference to me.

Would you rather have the 15th (or possibly the 16th) pick and a date with either Boston or Detroit in the first round, or not go tot he playoffs and have no worse than the 11 pick (and possibly as low as the 7th)?

    Tough choice.

I want the Nets playoff streak to continue but a lottery pick would mean so much more. Give me the lotto pick, I've had enough 1st or 2nd round exits.

The Blazers and the Jazz had to see their long playoff streaks come to an end in order to improve, and now they are two of the top teams in the NBA.

whats the point? boston and detroit are going to merck us over and kidd will leave after this season. take a chance on the lotto, get lucky, who knows, the nets might end up with the first overrall pick or the 15th, getting our asses handed to us by boston or detroit is not worth it

i don't believe any of this will actually happen but imagine:

--Krstic gradually plays more and more and actually rounds into shape around April 15.
--Carter's ankle slowly improves, and he discovers that, with all the off-dyas during the playoffs, he has regained his explosiveness.
    --Kidd decides to focus
--Wright and Boki suddenly start to realise that they are at risk of being out of the league next year, and start playing like their hair is on fire.

Nets go 10-3 in April, sneak into the #7 spot, and beat Detroit as Boone dominates Rasheed on the boards.

p.s., don't flame me, I'm not indicating what I believe might happen or giving my preference.

btw, they won't get the #1 pick, the odds are overwhelming that the worst five teams will get the first five picks in some order.

Trade everyone, have a fire sale, hope for a top 10 pick, and go from there.

The #5 seed NY Giants just beat the undefeated #1 seed Patriots. Anything is possible.

I wouldn't put it past Kidd to feel slighted by other teams and ball his brains out once the 21st passes. Been a lot of negative stuff said about him since this trade issue came up and he feeds off that. He also knows he is more tradeable as an expiring contract this summer and will want a contender rather than a rebuilder seek to to acquire him.

The biggest issue with this team though is effort, not just injuries and players not shooting the ball well.

Pull a Memphis because we at least have more peices to build faster. The 7th pick is even good to bring someone in like Charlotte did Jason.

oh man I remember us being at the same crossroads last year, with myself arguing for that lottery pick. The only difference this year is that we're not even at the midway point!

I'm now fine with blowing up the team, so I guess its not too soon to hope for that 7th pick. Still, I still cannot advocate for purposefully blowing games.

It shows how strong the West is.

Even so, they're on the right track, with Roy, Aldridge, and Oden. But they had to see their streak end to get those guys in the draft.

    - krstic can def. improve

    - i dont see how carters ankle heals playing games, he needs rest and possible even surgery.

    - kidd can focus all he wants but he cant carry us by himself

    - boki had one good year in this league, last. he's always been a low percetnage shooter. he's back to that now, i doubt this is a slump, shooters shoot themselvees out of slumps, boki has been in a slumpfor the first 40 games, thats not a slump.

wright just started iff hot, remember he did the same last year, he eventually cooled off, lost confidence and his offense. dont count on him being a consistent offensive player.
