<td><font face="verdana" size="1">Morgan Newton first got into a varsity game as a sophomore and put up decent numbers of 464 yards and 7 touchdowns. However, Newton really began to shine this past year once he was given complete control of his school's football team. In his junior season, he lead Carmel High to the state championship while throwing for about 2,000 yards, rushing for another 900 yards, and 36 total touchdowns. He is also a fantastic basketball player.

Newton has a very good frame and excels with both his arm and his feet. Footwork in the pocket is good. Has a very quick release. Delivery is a little unorthodox, but has little wasted motion. Throws a very good ball that is easy to catch. Strong arm downfield and excels in the long passing game.</font></td>

Top QB prospect makes rounds in S.C. | TheState.com

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>CLEMSON AND USC entertained one of their top quarterback prospects last week when Morgan Newton (6-foot-5, 215 pounds) of Carmel, Ind., passed through while on spring break. Newton was at Clemson last Tuesday where he met with Tommy Bowden and sat in on the quarterbacks meeting. Wednesday, Newton was at USC where he got a tour of the campus and facilities, and he met with Steve Spurrier. From meeting with Bowden and Spurrier, Newton believes both are seriously interested. “In May, we’ll see who’s really interested and we’ll narrow it down from there,” Newton said. Newton also visited N.C. State, Kentucky and Tennessee on his trip. He also has offers from Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Louisville and Penn State.</div>

South Carolina Offers Indiana QB | Palmetto Sports

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>USC made an offer earlier this week to QB Morgan Newton (6-5 215) of Carmel, IN who spoke with head coach Steve Spurrier and recruiter David Reaves. "Obviously with Spurrier's history, he's had a lot of success," Newton said. "Just being able to listen to him and the knowledge he has, I thought it was a good thing. I'm already somewhat familiar (with the offense) because my high school coach runs part of what Spurrier does in our offense. As for coach Spurrier, the offense he runs is a good offense for someone who wants to go to the next level. There's a lot of pro-style things." Clemson also has offered Newton along with Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Louisville, Kentucky and Virginia. He's made a number of unofficial visits and plans to see USC at some point. "I know I will definitely get down to South Carolina to see the campus and all of the coaches," he said. "I havfe an AAU tournament this summer at the Peach Jam in North Augusta. On the way down there or on the way back we'll probably stop through the campus. Possibly next week, depending on how travel or time is, we might stop down there during spring break." Newton said he does not have a favorite. A two way threat, he passed for 1900 yards and rushed for 900 yards last season.</div>

Newton has IU, Purdue on final 8 | IndyStar.com

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Carmel's Morgan Newton, one of the nation's top quarterback prospects, lists Indiana University and Purdue among eight schools he considers leaders.

Ranked as a five-star player and the seventh-best quarterback in the nation in the incoming senior class by scout.com, Newton lists Clemson, Florida, Illinois, IU, Kentucky, Miami, Purdue and South Carolina, in no particular order. He has taken unofficial visits to each school except Florida, which he hopes to see in July. Newton made an unofficial visit to Kentucky on Monday with his father, John, who played football at Grambling.</div>

I would be willing to bet he ends up at Clemson or Kentucky.

Take your time, top athletes say | IndyStar.com

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Don't rush it.

That's the plan Carmel's Morgan Newton and Bishop Chatard's Zach Martin are following in choosing a college destination.

Newton and Martin, two of the area's most highly-sought prospects in the 2009 class, have their share of options. Newton, a 6-foot-4 dual threat quarterback, said Monday that he hopes to have his list of eight schools (Clemson, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Miami, Purdue and South Carolina) cut in half by late August.

"I'm not pressing myself to make a decision before then," Newton said.

Newton's criteria for selecting a school is based on several factors, including the quarterback situation at a given program. "It doesn't make sense to go somewhere that has a bunch of quarterbacks," he said.

Newton will rely heavily on his friends and family before making his decision final. Despite the presence of football powers like Florida and Miami on his list, he said he is strongly considering Indiana and Purdue.</div>
