Here is a match-up made for the 90's! YAMMA Pit Fighting has announced plans to have Don Frye (18-6-1) fight Oleg Taktarov (15-5-2) in April. Though YAMMA will be doing tournament-style shows, the Frye vs. Taktarov bout will be a showcase. One of the sports biggest personalities, Don Frye debuted at UFC 8: David vs. Goliath, the event with the classic Ken Shamrock vs. Kimo Leopoldo bout. Frye defeated Gary Goodridge in the finals of that event. Frye retired in 1996 after choking-out Tank Abbott at Ultimate Ultimate, but returned in 2001 for PRIDE and has been fighting a few times a year since. Taktarov, a Russian Sambo fighter, debuted in America at UFC 5: Return of the Beast. He lost to Dan Severn in the finals of that event which also featured the legendary Ken Shamrock vs. Royce Gracie 36-minute marathon fight. Taktarov retired in 1998 but returned in 2007 with BodogFIGHT: USA vs. Russia.
