<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Memphis GM Chris Wallace challenged all executives who are speaking out against the <u>Pau Gasol</u> trade to do so on record, and according to Sports Illustrated, Spurs' Coach Gregg Popovich did just that on Friday night.

"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension," said Popovich. "There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committe that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."

When told that Wallace had challenged executives to criticize the deal publicly, Popovich replied, "Well, there you go. I'm on the record."</div>

I'm wit Pops on this one. That Gasol trade was a big WTF? and there should be a trade committee to veto that. Seriously, I'd love that.

What are you gonna do: ban incompetence? It was a moronic trade, but that just means every other team in the league had the same chance to take advantage of Memphis.

Yeah he's right about one thing, that it was a dumb trade for Memphis. Other than that, no, there shouldn't be a committee. Teams are free to do whatever they want, thats business for you.

They want to sell their team, their were only a few teams that could give Memphis cap relief while also keeping the number of players acquired to a minimum.

    You must be joking :[

There are plenty of blog posts/articles out there that show how lots of other teams could have offered better talent and the same or similar cap relief

For instance the Suns could have traded Marion for Gasol and another contract, and the Grizz would have gotten $16M off the books..

+ 1, memphis was shopping gasol for quite some time now. And im sure pops is furious since the lakers were lucky enough to get him and it created a monster in the west. If a team like the nets (not doing so well) acquired him for the same kind of deal he wouldnt be too pissed with the trade.
