<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Free-agent center DJ Mbenga will probably play his last game with the Lakers on Sunday in Miami. The team is not expected to sign him for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expires. Mbenga is averaging 2.3 points and 2.1 rebounds in eight games.</div> http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakere...1&cset=true I don't understand this at all. DJ is cheap, and seems to be somewhat of a fan favorite here in Los Angeles. He steps on the court and he gives it his all, and has looked decent in limited minutes. I don't see the harm in keeping him for the rest of the season. If we let him go, we'll only have 13 players on the roster. Does this mean there will be another move in place? We need another big body on this team and DJ fits perfectly for us. I don't see any benefits of letting him ago, because we'll need his size and his extra 6 fouls in the playoffs.
Ugh, that sucks completely...I really think Mihm's career is over. I'd love to keep him around, another 7 footer to utilize.
The only way this will make any sense is if they expect Chris Mihm to return. But let's be honest, Mihm is done. In the limited minutes he's seen this season, he has looked absolutely terrible. DJ Mbenga all the way, hopefully the management and coaching staff will realize this as well.
I'd be surprized if they don't sign him. The Lakers could use him until Bynum is healthy, and at a mill, its a very reasonable price for a 3rd tier center. (Saves Turiaf for PF)
on the bright side, this indicates that they fully expect Bynum to be back in the not too distant future, and not out for the season that that clown bucher reported
That, or they expect Mihm back at full health soon. There has been no update on Bynum since Tuesday. Hell, that was the last time Phil talked to Mitch about it. I'm kind of concerned about that. Why isn't Phil more involved in getting news about Bynum?

He's definitely not running, but he's continuing treatment," Lakers spokesman John Black said. from LA Times yesterday
Hm, that's good I guess. The Press-Enterprise reported no update on Bynum. It said that Phil had not talked to Mitch about Bynum since Tuesday.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Will Lakers Keep Mbenga? The Lakers are leaning toward keeping DJ Mbenga in case Chris Mihm isn't ready to play after the All-Star break, a team source said. This probably indicates Chris Mihm is coming back soon and the Lakers want to see if he can produce anything before they commit to DJ. You also have to factor in the All-Star Break is coming up and the Lakers don't have a lot of games remaining before the break. If they wait until after the break they can pro-rate DJ's contract and limit the amount of luxury tax the team will end up paying. There just aren't enough minutes to go around at this point with Gasol on the team. Even Ronny is playing under 15MPG since the trade.
