Last night I was playing FIFA 08 and it froze. I shut it down, looked at the disc (clean), then left it off for an hour or two. When I came back it was fine and then ten minutes into playing it froze again. I've only had a game freeze once or twice and it was always because of dirt on the disc. So I powered it down and then turned it back on and was met with the red ring of death, which has remained since. I know about the towel method and the HDD cleaning method but neither are a permanent solution, it seems. I would buy a PS3 to replace it but I have too many 360 games. Microsoft wants $140USD plus shipping to repair it because it is out of warranty, plus six to eight weeks back and forth. Looks like I'm going to Best Buy this week .
