<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Mark Cuban loves Devin Harris, and that isn't going to change.
"He can be a top-five point guard," he said of his fourth-year leader. "I don't think there's any question he has that potential. We track every number known to man, and he's tracking on that path right now."

So despite the significant and potential improvements in L.A. and Phoenix, the Mavs don't feel they need to upgrade the point guard spot?

"There's always an opportunity for upgrade at every position," Cuban replied. "But there's not always opportunities to do it like the (Lakers) got (Pau) Gasol. That's the difference." --</div>

    Star-Ledger

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>To acquire Jason Kidd, who earns $19.73 million this season, the Mavericks would have to include multiple rotation players, including young point guard Devin Harris. Cuban didn't sound like he wanted to do that.

"You can't just trade for a high-salary guy and expect it to work," Cuban said. "You have to give up half your team."

A way around that is for Cuban to use a salary-cap loophole and a sign-and-trade involving the inactive Keith Van Horn. But Dallas would be giving up fewer players then and thus would pay more luxury tax. Cuban isn't interested, so a third team seems likely to be involved for Kidd to go to Dallas. --</div>

    The Record

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Cuban reiterated that speculation about the Mavericks trading for Kidd is almost certainly wrong.
If the Nets were willing to take pennies on the dollar, of course Cuban would be interested. But he said that if such a deal ever gets close, it's unlikely that the media, and therefore the public, will know about it.</div>
