I'd give it to Kobe personally. The Celtics have shown they can still win without KG, take Kobe from the Lakers though, and they're a lottery team, even with Pau and Odom. My MVP changes every week, but this week how can anyone go against Kobe? He's been playing insane basketball and the Lakers are 6-2 on their current road trip. The longest road trip by any team in the history of the NBA. With a busted pinky he found other ways to help his team win games. He's been locking down players in crunch time, recently Hedo and the other night DWade.
plus KG has missed games .. if Kobe stays healthy the rest of the way - by healthy i mean doesn't miss games - and the Lakers keep winning, then I think this will be the year
I think the only thing that can prevent Kobe from winning the MVP this year is the mass amount of hate he gets from writers and how much everyone loves players like Nash and LeBron. Honestly, no matter how great Kobe seems to be, there's always writers out there that can't stand the fact that he's the best player on the planet with a team that could make a run for a title now.

I don't really care who gets MVP but Dwight Howard would get my vote just because he's a beast of a man. I drool constantly while watching him play.
meh interesting article, but the MVP favorite is like a female hottie flavor of the day, any week now the favorite will change and then change again and again before the season ends. There is no dominant choice this year so writers will nominate different players at different parts of the year. Kobe, Lebron, KG and probably Nash will be the top vote getters. Some sentiment will be written for Chris Paul but the final voting will have him 5th at best. Personally it's between LeBron and Kobe and I'd be happy to see LeBron win his 1st MVP. I think too many writers use the teams record as a major decider, when the team results are due to the efforts of all of the players on the team not one individual. Certainly a teams record needs to be considered but it shouldn't be the main factor IMO. Too a certain degree, it ain't a players fault if his teamates are not that good and thus the teams record.

I think the obvious candidate is Kobe. I mean, hell he gets chants in every arena that he's been in. The fans know who the MVP is, it's time for the media to drop their hating of him, and give him the votes that he's due. Like Moo said, Boston has proven they can win without Garnett. If you ask me, I think Ray Allen has the biggest impact on that team, I may be very wrong though as I haven't seen enough of Boston. It just seems to me that when he's off or out, they struggle.
I must disagree with you to an extent there Mamba. I think all three are actually equally as valuable, which is why they're not falling apart. Each of them brings their own type of game to the table, and when one is down, the other two step up theirs to help out with the loss of the other. The other thing to look at is just how damn good their supporting cast has been. I mean, honestly, Rajon freakin' Rondo is leading the team in rebounding since KG went, down, that's stepping up right there. Aside from that, Pierce has been clutch and huge in the fourth all season. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's highly unfair and unjust to the other two to call one of that trio the most important, because they all step up and do what needs to get done for the W when another is out.

Authentiq, the MVP isn't all about numbers. If that was the case, than Howard is probably the hands down favorite, because his 21/14 is pretty damn ridiculous. Also, Shaq would have probably won four or five, MJ would have one seven or eight, hell, even Kobe would have one by now if it was all about numbers. MVP should be looked at like this. How good is your team when you're not on the court? When Kobe isn't on the court, the Lakers look flat a lot of the time. There's been a lot of games where their offense disappears when Kobe goes off the court. However, if you take a look at KG, his C's are what 6-2 without him? That's not to say he's unimportant, but his team has proven they can win without him. Plus, in all honesty, who thought the Lakers would be THIS good? They were a top five Western team before the Gasol trade, when they were healthy, they were a top 3 probably. No one thought the Lakers would be that good. Most people were thinking probably another 7 or 8 seed. A lot of the credit has to be given to Kobe. People always say he's selfish and doesn't make others better, and he's really shut those doubters up this year. Derek Fisher is having a terrific year, Farmar has been outstanding, Lamar has been solid, Bynum was having a monster year before the injury, and now Gasol has been seamlessly implemented into the offense. And honestly, you have to give a lot of credit to Kobe. He's trusting his teammates more than he ever has, maybe moreso than how much he trusted Shaq in their threepeat days. Kobe has matured and realized they can't go anywhere with him jacking up 30 shots a game and going for 35ppg nightly. The reason why the Lakers are so good is because Kobe has matured. And if you take Kobe from the Lakers, they WILL fall apart. So, before you go and give it to the person with the best stats, you have to really look at the impact on the team, and that's why it has to be Kobe, with LeBron and Chris Paul following.
