I'm going to China tomorrow for a school trip Only til Tuesday, but what the hey, it should be fantastic. Anyone got any thoughts on where I should visit in the free time we have? (we're going to the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Acrobat Show, Tianamenen (sp?) Square, the famous Market)
I would stay away from any "Peking Duck houses", and remember to brush your teeth with bottled water. Have fun man. -Petey
We're having a 15 course Peking Duck banquet on one day Water is what I'm going to have to remember most (to use bottled stuff) but knowing me I'll forget. And then get typhoid seeings as haven't had any injections.

Last time I was in China was so long ago though there was a black market for local-foreign currency. -Petey
Until very recently (like the last few weeks) you couldn't actually bring Chinese money into China. They have changed it now, but that is a strange rule :S

Foreigners were given one type, the government gave the locals the other type. They did this because Air Lines and companies outside of China would only accept the 'Foreign' currency. They did this in part so local doctors (educated/talented portion of their population) couldn't leave. So what was happening was there was a black market. The Foreign currency was becoming worth twice as much as the local currency. You could take your USD to a black market trader and get twice as much local currency. They would buy the same thing at most shops because there were still group of vistors/foreigners that didn't know the worth of the 'Foreign' currency. Like I said it was 5 years ago, but I remember -Petey
Wow lucky, You've named the Main Tourist Attractions, just stay away from the lady boys, you know Cocks & Frocks, Chicks and Dicks don't mix
I went in 94 to Beijing. Great Wall, Forbidden City, Great Hall of the People, Tiananmen Square, The Friendship Store, all that good stuff. Also did eat Peking Duck at some sort of banquet or something or other. Awesome experience.

Is Chun-Li a reference to the Kung Fu show? If it is, that show is awful. Even if it isn't, the show is still awful. I had a great time and visited so much to even mention. We left our hotel at 8:30 am each morning and would only get back at 10 or 11 pm, it was really tiring. I got the the top of the Great Wall, which is fantastic. I'll put some pics up later.

He eventually had to go see the doctor to recover, which was very inconvenient and lost a lot of weight. Bottled water and avoiding ice is important.
