It cut through the Clemens Trial Mike Francesa said Stack Harris, picks and others to NJ
Harris/Marcus Vince/Stackhouse Jefferson/Nachbar Kristic/Williams Boone/Diop/Swift That's a pretty legit line up for the playoffs, they'll hold their own. Stackhouse should be kept if they trade for him since he's exactly what this team is missing, a consistent scorer off the bench. As someone else mentioned, Harris has high value so who knows, could turn around and trade him for someone even better in the offseason.
If they buy-out Stack I am going to be very pissed. He's going to be clogging up our cap for $16mm over the next 2 seasons and we need a player like him. Won't even be able to trade him in the summer of '09 as an expiring.

Why would you trade a player who would actually help the team and be the thing this team has been missing for the past few seasons. And as you said you wouldn't even be able to trade his big expiring contract once it's up as the Nets would probably be paying him to play for a contender. If they get Stackhouse, keep him! But knowing this front office he'll be bought out shortly.
Cuban has gotten to close with these group of guys to do this deal. He has overrated everyone on his team. I would be surprised if he thought Barea can be better than Kidd in 4 years.

Probably just enough to keep us out of being a player in the free agent market.
From an updated version the ESPN article... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Nets are expected to buy out Stackhouse's contract immediately, which could enable him to re-sign with Dallas if he waits 30 days, and ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reports that the Nets and the Mavs are likewise poised to complete a separate trade that will send swingman Antoine Wright to Dallas for a future second-round pick.</div>

There's really no benefit to buying him out if they trade for him but the management is kind of cheap so they'll probably do it to save a few bucks.
People can knock Thorn all they want, and he has his weaknesses, but if this trade is in fact as being reported, it is yet another in his resume of absolute fleecings: TWO first round picks, a second round pick, Devin Harris, and still very serviceable players like Stackhouse and Diop. All for a nearly 35 year-old overrated "leader" who still passes great but is below average as a defender of quick PGs and can't shoot. Not bad.

Harris will make about $7mm and Stack $8mm. That's $15mm. Kidd was due to make about $20mm. The $5mm difference still has us over the cap.
