Here is an interesting scenario. I believe the Mavericks still have their full Mid Level Exception. So what if the Nets buyout Stackhouse for really cheap and the Mavericks pick him up with a good portion of their MLE and Stackhouse recoups his salary loss from the buyout and goes back to the Mavericks and the Nets don't take a big cap hit with his contract? That would be a good situation for the Nets.
If we can get a good buyout from do it. We're building for the future and Ager is a nice piece to develop for the next couple years. If we can't, then keep and play him.
HORRIFIC! but I think I've made my feelings known in the other threads. Takes the deal from good to horrible in a heartbeat. We only get $3mm in cash from Dallas and I ddoubt he takes a $3mm buyout from a deal with about $20mm left on it. The deal becomes Harris, 2 picks and expirings for Kidd, Wright, Allen, NJ cash and a shit load of our future cap space.

I'm in favor of keeping Stack too. He's a great player off the bench for us that can actually SCORE. He's gonna count against the cap if we keep him anyways, so we should just keep him and trade him to a team desperate for a SG next year, or the year after (when he'll be even more valuable b/c of his expiring contract). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can trade away a salary in which you bought out...
I think it's a terrible idea and that they should keep him but I guess it was part of the deal. I'm with Netted 100% on this. It went from a good deal to a bad one when you have to think about buying out Stackhouse so he can go back and play for them. Also add to the fact we gave them our best perimeter defender for free.

You need to use Busy Beaver functions just to start to express it.
if he doesnt accept our buyout whatever it is that Thorn offers him, then hes got no choice but to play for the Nets. If he has any hopes of going bak to dallas he will have to accept the buyout
This may now be moot, but: If Stackhouse doesn't show up, I'd suspend him without pay. I'd then offer him a $1 buyout. He can go to hell.

Stack makes 6.75, 7 and 7.25 million on his contract which totals 21 million A full MLE deal would be 5.356, 5.78448 and 6.21296 which totals 17.35344 million Total difference is 3.64656 and the Mavs are sending 3 million and taking the rest of Wright's contract
I think the NBA needs to adjust this rule and block players who were bought out from going back to the team that just traded them. Sooner or later someone is going to blatantly use this. Imagine if shaq was in the last year of his contract and miami traded shaq and the #1 pick to a team that's rebuilding like memphis was for gasol and stoudamire. Memphis agrees to buy out shaq because they only wanted the #1 pick and cap room from miami, then shaq goes back to miami and they go on to compete for a championship with their new lineup of allstars. I know it's farfetched considering how far miami has fallen but I think you get the drift.

One that comes to mind is the Celtics trading Gary Payton to the Hawks as part of the Antonie Walker trade and they waiving him so he could rejoin the Celtics.
it seems like this kind of thing violates the spirit of the motivation behind making teams match salaries.
