MIA mortgaged their future and got a championship out of it. Dallas figures that it's not unrealistic to expect Kidd to play his absolute best for a month or two starting in May. You can say what you want, but Kidd is still Kidd. Even if he doesn't fit in with DAL's offensive system.

Harris is as about a good of player as the Nets could get for a 35 year old PG demanding a trade, so its a nice start to rebuild.

Maybe for this season, but they really mortgage their future with this trade. They lose their PG of the future for a guy who'll be their PG of the next couple years. And quite frankly, good young PGs are hard to come by, so usually if you have one, you want to keep hold of them. Oh by the way, as I've stated before, say goodbye to interior defense. This is a quality that Harris does not possess. This is Harris' 4th year in the league. Dallas tried to make him their regular starting point repeatedly over the last couple of season, until deciding to stick with him this year with moderate results. Don't get me wrong, I think he's decent, but this is about as good as he gets.

He's a good player, but at best he's a weak starter/6th man. He's not a good playmaker, not a good shooter, he's pretty much a glorified defensive specialist who can slash. Losing him for Kidd is no big deal. The two picks? We don't have a good drafting record of late, so I'm not crying over two mid to late 20s picks. Diop is a average to above average help defender/shot blocker, but he hasn't been even doing that well. George, well you saw tonight how worthless he is. And Stackhouse is coming back to Dallas. In terms of pure value for value, we win out. People act like this team wasn't close to running its course anyway, regardless of age. If we had had one more dissapointment this postseason they wouldve blown things up anyway. Adding Kidd just gives us a "sense of urgency" that's very real. We only have a two year window right now, and I like it like that. I think I'm coming around to this deal. I just hate that PGs will abuse us and Kidd isn't even capable of going back at them.</div> Finally someone else with some realism about Harris The best thing the Nets can do is to rip off another team by trading Harris while his value is still ridiculously overstated. </div> you're probably right, but he is still pretty young. </div> But he is also making a lot of money. It's important to be sure with him, because if he doesn't improve his value could plummet because of his contract. He is worth a lot right now. I'm not as down on him as cpawfan, though. I like his size and defense and I think he was very raw and is still improving. I don't agree that he is a poor passer or has below average court vision, but I do think he has to think too hard about playing the point and isn't instinctual enough yet - especially in the halfcourt. That will be jarring to watch for fans used to possibly the most natural and instinctive PG of all-time. He still fits better with Carter and Jefferson than Kidd, though. He isn't a great shooter, but he's still a lot more reliable than Kidd. He can also create offense and he is a tremendous finisher both in the halfcourt and on the break. He's also a lot better defensively than Kidd. He plays intense defense for the whole game, not just a few possessions when he isn't tired and the last two minutes of the game like Kidd. I think the Nets have actually improved with this trade. The only way we'll know if the Mavs have improved is in the 4th quarter of playoff games, when Dirk is pulling his disappearing act and Kidd makes a few key plays that are the difference between winning and losing. That's what this trade was all about.

I just realize the situation Dallas is in. Because, as good as Kidd is, can he defend the post when Damp gets in quick foul trouble? No, not so much, and for that matter, neither can Bass or Dirk. Secondly, he's not going to prevent Dirk from pulling his disappearing act in the 4th quarter. So, while they get the best floor general in the NBA, they lose solid interior defense, something they were already weak on. And unfortunately for them, Kidd's not going to prevent Dirk from disappearing in the 4th or choking the clutch, a couple things he's highly accustomed to doing now.
