If Bynum hadn't damaged a knee in a Jan. 13 victory over Pau Gasol and the Memphis Grizzlies, General Manager Mitch Kupchak has acknowledged, the Lakers would not have pursued Gasol in a trade according to the Los Angeles Times Source: Los Angeles Times</div> Source
That makes sense to me. It seems like one of those offers than an intern came up with on the ESPN Trade Machine and showed it around the office. Then the GM saw it and said, "hey...why the **** not? Bynum is out and Brown is worthless...lets give it a shot." Of course, those deals aren't supposed to work unless you're talking to Isiah Thomas.
I can't imagine the Lakers turning that offer down regardless if Bynum was injured or not. That deal was a no-brainer and it's been reported several times the team was looking to add value and make use of Kwame's expiring contract.

If the deal was there, you do it. It's pretty simple. You don't turn down a no-brain deal that's going to make your team better, even if you have a guy playing like an All Star at that position.

Maybe it's a way to make Odom feel better after he got hammered with the blame for getting the Bynosaur hurt.
