Matt Lindland was looking for any kind of offer from the UFC but has been turned away.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>“I made it very clear to Dana (White), and he’s the final decision-maker on all that stuff,” Lindland said. “I made it very clear that I was looking for them to make me an offer. I said, ‘Make me an offer, and let’s talk. Let’s do business.’ I got back a, ‘We’re not going to make you any kind of an offer’ response.“</div>

If you recall, The Law was originally booted from the UFC for wearing an unapproved sponsor's logo at a weigh-in.

This is just a case of holding a grudge. The ufc needs quality fighters at 185. It's too bad. I don't know who they are going to feed Anderson if he can take out Henderson

The logo reason was weak and as Matt said, other fighters were wearing unapproved logos at the same UFC he was at.
They let him go because he was a bad match up for Franklin, whom the UFC was trying to make a poster boy out of.
Sure Matt WAS a boring fighter but his fight vs Rampage (one I think he won) was a pretty good fight.
He almost had Fedor on his back but Fedor got away with holding the ropes.
