Hearing two versions...which is accurate: KVH and Maxwell or Maxwell in place of KVH?

KVH can be resigned for anywhere up to $16 million. Maxwell was last a vets minimum player. I think that limits what he can be paid.

I don't get it. Why would maxwell even have to be included? although i think it'd be funny and honestly, i think it would be cuban's way of giving a big F U to stern for blocking stackhouse yet allowing every other bogus trade go through over the years.

isn't there still the roster space issue? Would the Nets have to carry Maxwell and KVH for the rest of the season, or coule they be waived/bought out immediately? What possible benefit is there to include both of them, instead of just Van Horn?

I believe they could suit up and retire immediately, making only their first year salary guaranteed.

But if the Nets have to actually make room for them to suit up before they retire, they'll have to get rid of Wright or Armstrong.

perhaps its part of a larger deal, maybe one is being sent to perhaps memphis along with Mag...for say Mike Miller?

Before this deal got to this farcical level, I thought Diop or George should be sent along with Magloire to Memphis anyway, expanding the base trade to a three way so that we could get Miller and still keep Boki for the rest of the season. As disappointing as Boki has been in most games, I still think he could get on a roll, and he would be a valuable player for crucial end of game 3-point situations. So I agree that splitting the needed salary into two players for that purpose is desirable, assuming, of course, that Memphis would do it for expiring contracts and a Dallas 1st rounder.

We could always designate Marcus to the D-league for a hot minute.

Wow.. Imagine Vernon Maxwell on this team now.

The sad thing is, he would still probably play better perimeter defense than any of our players, and hit a shot better, too.

NO indication that rumor is true...more importantly, the league's general counsel, Joel Litvin, signalled last night that the NBA would not look kindly on a team taking on an older player just to make a deal work. He did say KVH is young enough to be considered a viable player.

This is going to happen, IMHO, and I don't think it's the end of it. I think there will be a second trade before the deadline. On the other hand, I think the Nets are about to go through a period of mediocrity that will make some of the long-time fans on the board nostalgic. Devin Harris is TJ Ford writ just a bit larger: skinny kid with great speed who blasts into the paint...and gets wrecked. He has been injured a lot of his career. There's a reason for that: the way he plays. This isn't the 1980's or 1990's. Players are bigger and stronger.

NI, saying "mediocrity" and "Nets" in the same sentence this season is not a problem [IMG]
Well, hopefully Harris is less injury prone in the east? doubtful.

So from what I can tell it looks like this:

    To Nets:
    --Devin Harris
    --Desagana Diop
    --Maurice Ager
    --Keith Van Horn
    --Jerry Stackhouse or Trent Hassell
--two first round picks, one second round pick (?)
    --$3 million in cash (?)

    To Mavs:
    --Jason Kidd
    --Malik Allen
    --Antoine Wright (?)

    Cut?:
    --Darrell Armstrong

There are other permutations I assume that are out there in this trade and others...and I am speculating about Armstrong, but the Nets at best will be doing a 5-for-3 swap, maybe even a 5-for-2 swap.

Why not just designate Marcus to the D-league, make the Mike Miller trade and then recall Marcus...it could all happen within a 24 hour period anyway.

we'll be getting a 1 for 2 if we get miller for boki/mags, so that saves a roster spot

I'd rather cut Malik and trade Darrell. No need to do Darrell dirty like that.

Armstrong would be signed by the Mavs.

Allen is needed for the deal. They are losing Diop and need help up front.

I don't think the Nets taking back more players than senidng out is an issue. Considering the are willing to move Wright for a cap hold, they could just cut him w/ the saving they are making already, they are no where near the luxury tax, & there won't be any ramifications except losing a piece to match in terms of salaries in other trades for the next week.
