It just goes to show how stupid MP is. I've heard Devean George stands to gain upwards of $10M based on his Bird rights.

LOL. What is that? A twenty year contract?

In theory George can earn quite a bit more because of his bird rights because the lowest contract he can get is something like $2.41 mil per year. Hopefully he gets screwed over though and no one is crazy enough to sign him for that.

As for Pietrus, that's some pretty solid desperation on his part. Bird rights are usually something a player likes to hold on to because it does give them some type of leverage in negotiations.

Wouldn't his new team want to keep his Bird rights as well? Are they allowed to go over the cap to re-sign him if they don't have his Bird rights? Would another team be willing to trade for him knowing that they might not be able to keep him? Unlike Devean George, he's good enough and young enough that the team trading for him might be concerned about that, especially since they will have to make it a fairly large trade to negate the effect of his BYC status. It is fine that he wants a trade, and it is great that he is willing to make a sacrifice to get it done and let his team and the teams that are considering trading for him that he won't let his Bird rights get in the way of getting trade done, but he needs to understand that the Golden State can't just magically trade him now. The odds are still against him being traded.

Pietrus knows he's better off getting playing time. He's hoping to get in a better situation.
