    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>San Francisco Chronicle -
Monta Ellis is one of the NBA's best bargains this season, making just $771,000, giving him a Reina Value of +1,404. This is the highest RV of any player ranked in the top-50 according to season FIC.

Ellis could easily be making 10 times his current salary next season, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Warriors' executives insist he will be doing so with Golden State.</div>

If we can only have to pay him 10X more than this year, I would be extremely thrilled. Before the season, I thought we may have to pay him about 10 mils per year. But right now, Martin's extension (12 mils per year) seems like a fair market value, and I am just hoping some nut teams don't offer him a max contract...

When I saw that, I thought the same, he would be a steal at 7M.

I pray that Memphis won't try to lure Ellis away so he can be closer to home and be the franchise man along with Rudy Gay. That would definitely hurt.

He'll easily make $7mil next year I think. He's one of the best young players in the league and he's going to get a massive extension with whomever he ends up signing with.

Well, we do have Monta's bird right and as far as I know, he is RFA. But I am not too comfortable with Monta's situation. Both Memphis and Philly will have a significant caproom to sign a mega FAs (Miami may have it after next season). I am not too worried about Memphis as long as the team is not being sold. But, I am worried about Philly. Even with potential Iguodala's extension, they still have a room to add another max player. And, in order for a bad team to lure a big name FAs, they have to heavily overpay FAs. Just look at how much Orlando paid for Lewis, and Orlando wasn't a bad team to begin with. Monta is young and exciting player, so there is a chance that either Philly or some other teams will try to lure him, or Monta will use those teams to squeeze as much as possible. I do think we can retain both Biedrins and Monta at the end. But, if we give Monta a max contract, our future financial situation will not be pretty...

No, he is. Ellis is a restricted free agent because of the Gilbert Arenas/Carlos Boozer rule they made on the new collective bargaining agreement. So yeah, theoretically the dubs could go over the salary cap and match any offer sheet given to Ellis so that the Warriors can retain him.

The problem is our owner is not very rich relative to other nba franchise owners. So if Memphis throws everything they got to get Ellis, it just makes less resources available to do other things with the Warriors team like re-sign Biedrins and Baron. But I guess the market will probably set Ellis' price based on his potential alone and many think that will be near the max or the max itself depending on how crazy under-the-salary-cap teams get. They won't need Memphis' help, but it would definitely suck if Ellis is open to the idea of going to the south and not playing for the Warriors. He might force some kind of sign and trade deal if he expresses his wish to go there. If that's the case, we better hope there are some good draft picks coming back to us in return.

With the cost of Biedrins, Baron's request for a new contract, the partial money that they still owe to Foyle, the Warriors might be spending quite a bit of money. The owner might decide on keeping two of the three (Ellis, Baron, Biedrins). I'm not sure if Ellis is worth the max but we've seen how guys like Kevin Martin, Michael Redd, and Bobby Simmons get paid. But then again, there's only a few teams who can really aggressively pursue Ellis. So maybe there's no real worry. Ellis seems to like the coach and his teammates and having Baron there to mentor him. It's a much better situation to be on a winning team with a few proven stars that play the same position and a coach that likes you. Maybe Biedrins is not so fortunate because of Nelly's small ball agenda and the fact there's no good big men on this team that can unlock new areas of Biedrins' development.
