I'll admit I don't have much of a clue on these guys...so could you help me out Antoine Wright? Malik Allen? Jason Kidd (aside from the obvious)
Antoine Wright - Good defender but thats it, his shooting is suspect and he has trouble finishing at the rim. Malik Allen - Spot up shooter, should not play more than 10mpg. The guy sucks IMO. Kidd - You pretty much know what to expect from Kidd.
Malik Allen will bring you no defense, and a weak jumper. I'm not sure how he plays on a winning team, but on New Jersey, he played like a high schooler/WNBA player.
Wright is a great defender, but is very streaky. In the beginning of the season, he showed much promise, drilling shots left and right. At the moment, you'll be praying that he makes a wide-open 3. His defense will be key, so be excited if he does more. Malik Allen? Umm....well he can drill an open mid-range shot. That's about it.
Yeah gotta agree with GM3's analysis. Wright is a really good defender, he may excell on a new team. Malik is no big deal. Kidd is Kidd. I still don't know if I like this trade.
Oh, and I'm expecting and hoping for Wright to be good on Dallas. The makeup of that team gives me a feeling that his deficiencies will be hidden well by Howard, Dirk, Stack, and Terry when on the floor with those guys.
Allen will give the starters a few minutes of rest, that's about it. Wright needs to be consistent. Has potential, as proven in the early part of the season. But may excel on a winning team like Dallas. Kidd... well... the guy is Jason Kidd!
Good luck with Kidd. I think he should give you that next step since the Mavs never really had a leader, you just picked up one of the best leaders there ever was. Also from my opinion I dont think Kidd trying to run around with some of the faster pg's should be to much of a problem. I think with Kidd in Dallas hes gonna give 110 percent, so it should be great watching him trying his absolute best.
If Wright couldn't perform with Kidd, VC and RJ with him, I highly doubt he will do better in Dallas. I mean, with Kidd getting him open looks and VC getting much of the defense's attention, and he's still not performing, how is it going to be any different in Dallas?
i think kidd will help you guys alot, he gives you a pass first PG and running an iso offense has hurt the mavs who are a low assist team, dirk, JHo and terry will get good looks now. dont expect anything valuable from malik, maybe he'll have a game where he hits a couple of jumpers but no defense, rebounding, nothing and with wright, think of eddie jones, minus a jumpshot
Wright is a good kid, quiet, won't get into any trouble or cause any waves. He plays tremendous man-to-man defense. Tremendous. You rarely see him get beat, and he fights through screens pretty well. He's a decent passer who rarely commits turnovers (the ones he does commit are usually when he steps out of bounds or gets called for an offensive foul). However, he lacks confidence in his shot and you'll scream at the TV when you watch him pass up open shots to pass it along the perimeter or just toss up a brick as the shot clock is expiring. Those rare moments when he's aggressive and drives to the hoop, he actually looks like a player, but they don't come often for whatever reason. I've been hoping for two years that he'll develop, but for whatever reason, his offense has stagnated. This would be somewhat acceptable (in return for his defense) if he was on the court with four other legitimate offensive threats, but the Nets didn't have that. Neither do the Mavs, if Wright is ever on the court with Kidd. He's not a great dribbler, either; the Nets tried using him at PG a little bit in training camp and it just didn't work very well. Don't get me wrong though, there's nothing wrong with his work habits. Just his execution. By all accounts he works very hard in the off-season to try to improve his game. Malik Allen is Cliff Robinson as a 40-year-old, with less range. That is, no rebounding ability, not much defense, no quickness, doesn't drive to the hoop, can hit an open mid-range jumper.
