there are a lot of them, thier called WRs....its the reason highly touted WRs are busts more than any other position....there are guys that are coasting on thier athletic ability and those guys are always underachievers....
My point about Vick is that he rarely displayed any positive traits aside from his physical tools. Yes, he's talented, but as a QB, you need more than talent, and people just assumed Vick had it even though they never truly saw it.

QUOTE (TheBeef)

Leaf is a guy that should on the list for sure....Mandarich was a guy that I considered, but the more I thought about him, the more I think his talents were inflated by steroids, which he had to get off of when he went to the NFL, and he lost his edge....the thing that would still sting me if I were a Packers fan is that they drafted him #2 overall and the next 3 picks were Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, and Derreck Thomas

Williams is on the top of the list considering that he has already proven to the world that he can be a top RB in the NFL, but chose not to. Leaf should never be on this list, because all his success can be traced to his supporting cast. He was exposed when he started playing NFL ball The same can be said of Robert Gallery, but probably moreso given his physical gifts and his college record of 1 total sack given up. Gallery isn't using steroids, like Mandarich, to keep himself in the game. Gallery's problems are mostly mental, and somewhat releated to footspeed. The only knock on him as a left tackle washis shorter than average arms for a left tackle. I think the only way he salvages his carreer isas a guard, not a tackle. At least then his weaknesses are contained, and much more manageable.
As for Sanders, Sanders and Thomas, pleasedo not ever put them in the same conversationasLeaf, out of respect. Those three guys did more with less around them, than I have seen from 90%of the NFL players since. D Thomasand DSanders were game-changers on defense, regardless of what shmoes they played beside. B Sanders didjust the opposite of what this thread implies -he did more more withless. He turned completely broken plays into first downs, and was fun to watch. Heoften didnt need blocking to help him. I can't believe you added him here.

I thought that the point of Beef's post was that Packer fans must be sick that they took Mandarich when the next three guys taken were so awesome. Could you imagine Brett Favre and Barry Sanders in the same backfield? What about a pass rush that included Reggie White and Derrick Thomas?

That's ok. Let me find his opening:
"Obviously, Mike Vick is on the verge of throwing all of his athletic oppurtunities away, but even before his current legal problems, most would agree that he was underachieving as a NFL QB....Is he the most underachieving athlete ever? Can you think of other guys that had so much talent and just couldnt put it together? When I was thinking about this, Ricky Williams and Rae Carruth came to mind as guys that have been drafted very high and had less than the expected career(to say the least)....anyone with more talent thats worse?"
Leaf never had any of this. He had no talent, or intestinal fortitude. Beef unfairly grouped Leaf with some Hall of Famers. I am tracing this post all the way back. Was I missing something? please explain, because he keeps mentioning that they are underachieving. I don't believe that Leaf ever achieved. The others were always achieving individually. Leaf was a coat-tails-rider.

to say that Leaf had no talent is wrong....he destroyed Peyton Manning at the physical workouts prior to that draft....there was a serious debate about whether the Colts should take Manning or Leaf and half the media was on the Leaf side....Leaf had a ton of talent but never translated it into any success on the NFL level, which is what this post was about....and the mention of Sanders, Sanders, and Thomas was an illustration about how good the top of that draft was and how far that pick set back the Packers....
