What you really need is Ben Wallace!

    I'm guessing it's a legit PG.

I think Larry Hughes is out, and Gibson will be put in as a SG if they get a good PG.

I've heard Mike Redd's name thrown about today, as well as Andre Miller and of course Mike Miller. Could be a post player though, but I'd rather a true PG. Can you guys try to keep this updated if anything happens, I'm off to bed soon.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Brian Windhorst @ Akron Beacon Journal)</div><div class='quotemain'>One more thing just to calm some of the waters. I have not once heard Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ name come up in a trade rumor this season. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t come up in trade talks, but he is not part of the potential deal I was talking about. However, Z and the Cavs do have a little issue going on behind the scenes about him playing for the Lithuanian national team.</div>

Ilgauskas will not be involved in this trade as far as I know, so I think it just has to be Larry Hughes for it to be classed as a blockbuster.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Akron Beacon Journal)</div><div class='quotemain'>Two league sources said the Cavs' front office is mulling over a blockbuster trade ahead of today's trading deadline. It is a complex deal, because for it to make sense, a second complimentary trade would probably need to be accomplished, too.

Another potential hitch could be haggling over a first-round draft pick the Cavs are also looking to acquire.

This potential deal is not part of the Cavs' pursuit of Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Mike Miller. The Cavs have made offers to the Grizzlies for Miller, but a league source indicated Wednesday that the Grizzlies were leaning toward not trading Miller based on the offers they'd received.</div>

    Link

There are now, what, 5 or so hours left before the deadline and not much is known about the trade, but here is what we do know:

The trade does not include Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
The "blockbuster" trade is not for Mike Miller (though he could be part of the complementary trade).
The Cavs are looking to get a first-round draft pick from the "blockbuster" trade (could be used in complementary trade).
Vince Carter will not be moved from the Nets today.

    Here's my theory:

Blockbuster trade will include Larry Hughes plus bit-players for a post player and (possibly) first-round pick.
Complementary trade will include Drew Gooden and a first-round pick (possibly from blockbuster) for a Guard, possibly Mike Miller.

Will update when more information is available.

I've now read that the blockbuster is supposed to be 1 for 1 (maybe draft picks). It could be for Curry, but there could be other names milling about. For there to need to be a complementary trade I think it has to be a Guard for a Forward/Center and vice versa in the two trades.

    HUGE NEWS!!!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Philadelphia Inquirer)</div><div class='quotemain'>This guy [Brian Windhorst, Akron Beacon Journal] is usually reliable, so I am bending my rule about forwarding trade speculation from others. As to the substance of it, this is the only thing I hear: Miami and Memphis may be the other players involved. That makes sense because of the following sentence fragment: I was told by no less than six general managers during All-Star weekend that the Heat was shopping Shawn Marion around.</div>

    Link

    Shawn Marion could be traded!

Marion would certainly help the Cavs, and Damon Jones has often said how he would like to return to Cleveland. Based on salary alone, Larry Hughes + Damon Jones for Shawn Marion works. I know that the aforementioned blockbuster says 1 for 1, but you never know.

I'm not quite sure how much sense this trade would make for Miami, but it would ensure they get something for Marion, who could leave for nothing after next season. In addition, Hughes' contract would put them in a strong position when Wade's contract expires, so they might be able to add to the roster. I'm hoping for this, but it is rather unlikely.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Sports Illustrated)</div><div class='quotemain'>I can confirm that the Cavaliers are indeed pursuing a big "mysterious'' trade Thursday, though it is unlikely to be consummated.</div>

    Link

The story is being confirmed by a lot of sources, but all say that the liklihood of the trade being completed is low. That's a shame, but hopefully Ferry can push this through. Worth reading that article, though, gives some good information.

I don't think Cleveland will pull anything major off. I just don't think they have the assets. If the "big mystery" is indeed Shawn Marion, I don't think it makes sense for Miami. They are better off letting him opt out and then gain a giant salary dump than taking on a guy like Larry Hughes. Even if it isn't Larry Hughes (combo of Marshall, Gooden, etc.), I think they are still better off letting Marion go.

Chad Ford is reporting a deal of Drew Gooden, Ira Newble, Shannon Brown and Cedric Simmons for Ben Wallace. That's ridiculous IMO. Hopefully this is just the complementary trade

Now being reported is Drew Gooden, Larry + another for Ben Wallace, Chris Duhon and Joe Smith. I'm not a great fan of that to be perfectly honest, I hope it doesn't happen

I can't see how it improves either team, the Cavs would get out of Hughes contract though.

FYI, Drew Gooden > Ben Wallace.

    Where do we sign?

In Smith, you get an able (but elder) replacement for Gooden. In Duhon, you get a defense minded pass-first PG who's a great fit.

Wallace? If he steps up his game to last year's level, you have a shot blocking/rebounding/defensive machine of a player who's decent enough handling the ball on offense (but not shotting or scoring or making FTs).

The Cavs have traded Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, Ira Newble and Cedric Simmons and received Delonte West, Joe Smith, Wally Szczerbiak and Ben Wallace. Not sure what to make of this, one bad contract for another, but have acquired a good PG and a good shooter with playoff experience as well. I'd say this is decent, but not like what I was hoping.

Not bad, especially since I thought Hughes contract was impossible to move.
