The summer league is open to everyone, I believe, although it is nearly all just first and second year players. For instance, sometimes you see players coming back from year-long injuries playing in the summer league. Didn't Jay Williams play for the Nets two years ago? You also may see some marginal players that have toiled in the D league or CBA trying to make their mark in the summer league so they can get a job somewhere.
Ron Artest played in the summer league a few years ago. (Not because he needed to, just because he is crazy.) It's the D-League you are thinking of, JBF.

There is no way he should play Summer League.... He's gotten enough minutes this season...rest, workout and come into training camp healthy... The only reason players play Summer League is to get them acclimated to the NBA game and two give younger players a chance to showcase there abilities...I'd be surprised if Boone or Swat were asked to participate in Summer League...especially Boone.
