I was on the bring Mike Miller to Jersey train, but as it is, I'm satisified. We got rid of Kidd and today I've been feeling great about it, much more than I thought I would. We're in half rebuild mode, and I kind of like it. Maybe upgrade mode rather than rebuild mode. I can't wait to see what Harris brings for us. With our improved defense, I think we have a better chance for the rest of the season than some think.

I really...really wanted Mike Miller. As it is I'm happy with the trades this season...getting Stromile Swift, Desanga Diop, Devin Harris, Maurice Ager, Trenton Hassel, KVH and two first rounders for Jkidd, Collins, Wright and Allen is to me an upgrade for a team that needs scoring at the point, and depth... Before we traded Collins I thought we had the worst bench in the league...now with Marcus back, and having Ager, Hassel and Nachbar at the wing positions with Swat, Swift and Diop in the frontcourt we have one of the best benches in the league. Overall it was an excellent job by Thorn and Kiki...we went from an old, thin roster to a younger, deeper roster in a little under a month...
lol, I'm just joking around. Seriously though, this was an awesomely entertaining deadline. Compare it to last year's snoozefest and it really hits you how uncharacteristically aggressive a lot of the GM's were this season. Interestingly enough, both deadlines ended with a Juan Dixon trade.

wow i didn't even know that gerald green went to the rockets i would love to have him we would have the 3 best dunkers beside Superman but gerald green sean williams vince carter
I think Thorn did an amazing job. He got rid of a 35 year old, unhappy, contract seeking PG for Devin Harris. And he got rid of the three worst players on our team. The last 30 games will be an evaluation period for everyone on the team. Should they extend Nenad?tr Is Marcus a bust or not? Is Diop worth offering a contract? Can Swift contribute on a nightly basis? Is Ager worth resigning? Is Frank the right coach for this team? Can the RJ/VC/Devin trio work, and is it worth building around?
Everybody is excited about this new nets team but i'm not entirely fulfilled just yet. They beat the bulls but we'll have to wait and see what they do against indiana and how they handle the west coast roade trip. I didn't really see much difference in the team other than the defense was a little better, they're still struggling to score. I'll be excited when devin harris is in the lineup.
Added several pieces that Thorn can deal on the trade market this summer. Give Thorn the time to mull over his assets, several pieces of them, small contracts, sizeable contracts, draft picks, exceptions....it'll be a wheeling and dealing summer, I'm sure he'll keep a close eye on what the Cavs are doing between now and June on the court....with an eye on keeping payroll low in the summer of 2010.
I sorta expected this to happen. People hyped up our chances at Mike Miller too much, and got us overconfident. I was hoping though that we could trade Diop and get something valuable such as draft picks for him instead of letting him just walk at the end of the year.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Deeznets @ Feb 21 2008, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Should they extend Nenad?</div> Only for the right price. Yes he was a very integral part of a lot of our success, however he isnt quite as quick as he was, and he was hardly Sean Williams beforehand. Short contract worth no more than $5mil a year. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Deeznets @ Feb 21 2008, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Is Marcus a bust or not?</div> He needs frank to play him so we can find out. Whilst Frank is not a fan at all, it seems Thorn is and will be more inclined to hang onto him than see him reach his potential elsewhere <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Deeznets @ Feb 21 2008, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Is Diop worth offering a contract?</div> For the right price, yes. Ultimately some sort of long term plan has to be made regarding our crowded frontcourt. It'll be a case of whether Swift wants to stay or not. If he stays look for the Bargain big man (Malik Allen type) to be making his annual cameo. I like Diop but Im not sure if we have the money and most importantly minutes to offer him. We should S&T him to somewhere like Orlando, a team that needs shotblocking. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Deeznets @ Feb 21 2008, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Can Swift contribute on a nightly basis?</div> He has yet to be consistant in his career so Im going to go ahead and say no. He is aggravatingly unfocused since one night he'll play out his skin and the next he'll be seemingly auditioning for the ABA... In a bench role he'd be solid but dont we already have Sean for that? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Deeznets @ Feb 21 2008, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Is Ager worth resigning?</div> If it costs us nothing than why not. If he can rediscover his stroke than yes. If he doesnt let him walk. He is on the cusp of Bust status, since at MSU he was a force to be reckoned with. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Deeznets @ Feb 21 2008, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Is Frank the right coach for this team?</div> Ill reserve judgement till halfway throught next year. We need to give him time post Kidd. That said he REALLY need to write a more imaginative playbook. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Deeznets @ Feb 21 2008, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Can the RJ/VC/Devin trio work, and is it worth building around?</div> Its a temporary "til Brooklyn" move. It all hinges on the development of Swat, Boone, Krstic and MWill. If they all pan out to best case scenarios then yes. The Harris/RJ/VC trio is not enough star power on its own.

Silly to even suggest a 22 year old is a bust unless his name is Cedric Simmons or Patrick O'Bryant. --Diop is the second most important player in this deal for the Nets...not Hassell. Not a lot of 26 year old, athletic, defensively oriented, 7-foot, 280 pounders in this league. The more relevant question is he going to look elsewhere. He is making a mere $2.8 million. Seven footers usually do a LOT better than that. Nets could sign Diop with some of that $8.2 million in savings they has next year as a result of this deal. --Swift may not get the chance. --Ager is already signed for next year and will make $1.04 million, a pittance. Stefanski liked him in the 2006 draft, said he had a terrific workout with the Nets. Interesting to note that when Donnie Nelson signed Harris six months ago, he said that Harris, Diop, Ager and Howard were the cornerstone of the franchise's future. --Frank proved once again the other night he is a very good coach. He aint going nowhere. Good night.
