<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>ANOTHER TWO-SPORT STAR: The U. checked in on Sunday's Catholic League championship game between Orchard Lake St. Mary's and Dearborn Divine Child.

Good game. But you know what was even better? The move junior forward Dion Sims made for a key bucket down the stretch. (By the way, Sims' St. Mary's team won, 45-41.)

But Sims' best sport might just be football. Rivals.com rates him as one of the top 30 players for the Class of 2009 as a 6-5, 230-pound receiver. The Web site says he already has offers from MSU, Purdue and Iowa.

But he says he would like to play both in college if he can.

Guess nobody wants to be a specialist nowadays.</div>

MSU football raises its recruiting game

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Dantonio's subsequent pickups of Oak Park running back Edwin Baker, (the No. 3 in-state junior prospect), Battle Creek Central running back Larry Caper (the No. 2 in-state junior prospect), Ypsilanti wideout Donald Spencer and Midland quarterback Andrew Maxwell have the Spartans off to their best recruiting start in years. The Spartans have worked feverishly to take advantage of the head start they have over the Rodriguez regime in forging relationships within the state. The father of another top-five in-stater, Orchard Lake St. Mary's junior wideout/linebacker Dion Sims, has certainly taken notice.

"Michigan State is very, very strong," Don Sims said. "They're coming at us almost daily. They're at the high school games, they're sending us correspondences and they're inviting us to campus. Dion and I were just talking about the players that are going to Michigan State from Detroit. Being a Detroit kid and being around all of those kids, he is seeing how State is really doing a lot of that -- and that's a factor."</div>

Romulus studied St. Mary's | The Detroit News

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>St. Mary's has superior interior size, led by one of the state's top post players in 6-foot-9 Davide Curletti (Northwestern). Dion Sims, a 6-5 forward, might be the state's top junior, averaging 24 points.

"We have to limit Dion's touches," said Oats, Romulus' coach. "Once he gets the ball in his hands, he's going to get a shot off."</div>
