Houston became winnable when Yao went down with a stress fracture in his foot.

Suddenly the playoff race in the West got a lot clearer.

I wouldn't say that. You forget that Tracy McGrady kept that team in the race by himself for a good chunk of last season. They've proven they can win without Yao, now it's just a matter of keeping TMac healthy.

Mutombo also had a lot to do with that, and he seems to have really lost a step this year.

Maybe they can get into the post-season, but I don't see them doing anything. Sure they didn't win last year either, but at least they had a better shot.

The nets won't have a playoff spot after the road trip.

Again, with how weak the East is, I don't think they'll fall very far. The bottom of the East is EXTREMELY weak, as I'm thinking probably 37 wins will get you a seed between 6-8. Even if they go 2-8 on this trip, they'll still very much be in the hunt. Because, honestly, the rest of the lower playoff seeds aren't going to do that great either.

currently we're 25-31...if we went 2-8 in our next 10 then we'd be sitting at 27-39 with 16 games left in the season...mean we'd have to go 10-6 over our last 16 in order to reach 37 wins...

reality is that we need at least 4 wins...most likely 5 in order to reach the playoffs.

My bet is no, but I don't think they'll be more than 2 games out. Right now, the Knicks, sitting at 17-39, still have a mathematical shot at the playoffs. They're only 7.5 games out, and with 30 games left, that's plenty of time to make up the ground. You also look at Charlotte, who, at 19-37, are only 5.5 games out. This is how weak the East is. I still think they'll be in the race after this road trip, even if it is a disaster. It's not like the West, where if you lose 3 in a row you're dead. You can lose three in a row out East and not lose ground.
