Is Dallas sure we want to load up on 30-something guys past their prime?

Cassell would be nice though, but with Jose Juan Barea and Jason Terry do we need another PG?

Well, Barea hasn't been getting minutes and Terry seems to mostly play SG. Now let's just think about Cassell's MPG. When do you play Cassell and for how long? Kidd gets 4-6 minutes of rest per half, so can Sam produce in that time? And would he even want such a small role?

You can stick him at SG, but that would just make things awkward. I don't think Kidd and Cassell could compliment each other well, if they're both on the floor at the same time.

Is Cassell going to choose Dallas over Boston anyway? He has a good relationship with Allen and Garnett having gotten to the Conference Finals with each of them, He told a Boston reporter that he wanted to join their team and hung out in the locker room when they played the Clippers the other day.

CelticBalla32 was just telling me the situation and I believe that Cassell will go there, he wants a ring and Boston have a good easy path due to being in the Eastern Conference, he will get more playing time there and act as a mentor for Rondo and would probably be playing in the clutch for Boston, whereas here he would have sporradic minutes and not be in the clutch because of Kidd and Terry.

Brent Barry would be a nice pickup I guess, I don't see the big deal everyone has with him. 7 ppg in 20 minutes per game? Nothing to special, we have a lot of shooters and Barry would just create problems with George and Jones, not giving them playing time. Plus, apparently his locker is still in tact in San Antonio, whereas the other guys who got traded to Seattle all cleaned out their lockers. Maybe he is pulling a Stackhouse and will return in 30 days.

How about Ronald Murray, someone who can drive and keep the defenses honest?

Barry's true shooting percentage is 12% above the average, and his per 36 numbers are very nice indeed.

He only has 7.3 points per game because he plays 19 minutes a game for the third slowest-paced team in the league. His per ball possession production is a decent amount above average.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Barry or Cassell?

Now that the Mavs have their backup center, signing 6-11 Jamaal Magloire Tuesday, they still have one open roster spot and their mid-level exception to spend.

The two big names out there are Brent Barry and Sam Cassell. Barry was waived Friday by the Sonics after being traded there by the Spurs. If Barry is going to re-sign with the Spurs, as most initially expected, he's doing one heck of a sales job to make it at least look like this whole thing wasn't a wink-wink deal between the Spurs and young Sonics GM Sam Presti, the former Spurs assistant GM. Barry has the Suns and Rockets waiting and to some extent the Mavs. He's expected to make a decision at some point today.

As for Cassell, who is expected to be bought out by the Clippers by Wednesday so he can join another team and be eligible for the playoffs, has given every indication that he wants to join good buddy Kevin Garnett in Boston. He'd make a nice fit for the Mavs, who are currently going with 6-8 Devean George as a point forward to back up Jason Kidd. J.J. Barea is their only other choice as long as coach Avery Johnson wants to play Jason Terry exclusively at shooting guard.</div>

Brent Barry has reduced his potential teams down to just the Spurs and Suns.
