Jamaal Magloire, who was waived by the Nets last week, is leaning towards joining the Mavericks, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN that Magloire is close to agreeing to terms with Dallas and that a decision could be made as early as Tuesday.

Magloire will officially clear waivers at 6 p.m. EST on Tuesday.</div>

If this were any other declined bigman who used to be decent, I would say - well, he has the chance to play with Jason Kidd and that could really revive his career? Unfortunately Magloire has already been with Kidd and did not produce at all.

But, Magloire is the best bigman currently in the free agent market so I am happy with the signing. The decent interior offense is better than anyone on the Mavericks and his rebounding is somewhat decent. Hopefully he can give us all he has for 10-12 minutes a game, give Dampier a big break and let Bass play some aswell.

Who else was out there? The Spurs got Kurt Thomas, Justin Williams but he is young and Chris Andersen -- is he back yet? He could have provided a Diop role. Magloire, at worst, is 6 PF against Duncan and hopefully his first game will be tomorrow against the Spurs, so he can prove himself to a certain extent.

I am happy with this signing, a former all-star must have some sort of skill to say the least and hopefully he can find his niche in Dallas

CD (Austin): Marc Stein reported Jamaal Magloire is going to sign with the Mavs. Will that make you feel better about the Kidd trade now that Diop's minutes will be filled?

John Hollinger: (3:22 PM ET ) Let me put it to you this way -- the Nets have been desperate for a center all season and found Magloire so unsatisfying that on several nights they didn't even dress him. But he'll be a solution against Duncan in the layoffs? Uh, don't think so. At least the Mavs can send out their "Mavs sign All-Star center Magloire" press release, just like the Nets did this summer.</div>

Well, for the record, Mags didn't get much of a chance in NJ. Then again, he is a complete black hole on offense.

You think Avery could whip him into shape?

Being a Blazer fan I can tell you Magloire isn't as bad as the Nets made him out to be. Does he whine? Yes, sometimes. But he's the best the Mavs could do right now and he should be able to give a decent 15 minutes a night

That is what I wanted to hear. Avery got Diop, an overweight bust with zero talent into a contributer. We'll see, hopefully he can play against Duncan and Thomas on Thursday

    The pluses of Magloire:
    Good rebounder
Can matchup against bigs like Shaq and Curry
    extra 6 fouls

    The minuses:
slow-meaning he will be beaten easily by the faster bigs in the league
very bad hands-meaning he cant catch a pass
black hole on offense-Magloire is best effective when he doesnt touch ball aside from a rebound. If he touches the ball on offense, he will try to make a slow, uneffective move to the bucket, shoot a missed jumpshot, or make a poor pass. his scoring should only come inside the paint when he gets an offensive rebound.
    poor freethrow shooter

Essentially, Magloire should be used against slower/bigger bigs, and as a rebounder.

The only positives I can think of for Mags is he's an extra six fouls every night, something you guys were in dire need of anyways, and he's a solid rebounder. Otherwise, he doesn't do much offensively. He's got an iffy jump shot, he's not a great finisher and he's dirt slow. His defense is also mostly putrid. While he's a big body and can clog the lane, he's slow and will get beat by the quicker Western bigs, which is basically every big on a playoff team and then some. But hey, with all these negatives, at least you get depth in the frontcourt, and I guess that's what matter. Extra minutes and six more fouls. However, he's a downgrade from Diop, especially defensively.
