<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Some Essex County heavyweights want the Izod Center shut down, saying it competes with Newark's new Prudential Center.

"They have [the family attraction complex] Xanadu, which is supposedly going to provide 20,000 jobs," Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo says of Bergen County's Meadowlands Sports Complex. "They have the Giants and Jets stadium, they also have the racetrack."</div>

Damn straight its time to close that god forsaken place!

the state technically operates the Izod center. Economically, it would probably be better for Essex County and New Jersey if they "spread around the money" and eliminated the Prudential center's prime competition. Really with Xanadu and New Meadowlands stadium in that area.....do they really need an out dated, crumbling airplane hanger?!

It figures that finally after 10 years of barganing and arguing that when New Jersey gets something as amazing as the Prudential Center, the thing that would go the best in it is playing in an old outdated arena up the Turnpike.

The fact that the Devils and Seton Hall are selling out games is an indication of just how much the Nets would benefit by playing in Newark, if only for the next two years.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band can't play in Newark in what Bon Jovi's manager called the best arena acoustics in the country because of the Izod Center.

    Politics as usual.

It's not going to close I bet. Didnt the Nets extend their lease there until the move to Brooklyn is finished?

Oh God I hope the Nets move to the Prudential. The Izod is just horrible. All the construction in that area is making it inconvenient for fans (thus drawing them away from watching games) and people are forced to park at Giant stadium and walk in the freezing cold tunnel-walkway thing they made. Why didn't they move when Prudential opened? If it is because Rat wants to avoid excess spending because of the Atlantic Yards project then that makes no sense because you'd be making money from selling more tickets. I would surely go to more games if they played at Prudential.

Makes too much sense for the Nets to play in Newark, so of course it won't happen.

I really dont see how the marginal profits (if any!!!) the Izod center brings in can justify the operating costs the state puts up. If ratner was smart he'd work out some kind of deal with the NJSEA to let the Nets playout the remainder of their lease in the Prudential Center.

If they play in Newark I can safely say I could go to around 15 more games next season.

They should keep it open because it will become more profitable when the Nets leave.

Close the dump. Only good thing in the NJ Meadowlands is the sign on Giants stadium that says home of the 2007 super Bowl champions.

The nets need to move as far as way from NY as possible.

Rock is in one of the best parts of Newark, if not the best.

Easy to get to, nice. Parking is a pain and the Traffic cops are jerk's ( the one said get hit by a car see if i care on route 21)

But the place is great, nice, safe area, easy to get it to.

It beats anything Crooklyn can give.

Oh yeah, did't you get a parking ticket too in Newark?

I've been down to the Rock a few times and either when I went with my Father or ZAE, we never had any problem. Traffic was pretty good and parking was one block from the arena.
