Out of curiosity, assuming: - The Nets don't resign all their free agents (Diop, Krstic, Boki, Darrell Armstrong) - Stromile Swift exercises his Player Option and remains with the team - The Nets have two first round picks circa 16 and 23 to sign Will the Nets be under the salary cap?
Yes. Here's the site I look at for relevant information: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_jersey.htm

How did we get $7 million under the lux tax? I thought we were over it when the season began. Did we really give away that much salary with the Kidd and Collins trades?

OK, so less than the MLE, and this doesn't count the 2 rookie contracts they'll have. So nothing significant.

The good news is that we are far enough under the luxury tax that we will have the full MLE to play with this summer. If we can't work a trade for someone like Mike Miller than we can at least use that for a solid 6th man.

Since all teams have/use them, the proven players (ie Raja Bell) flock to other teams, if it's weather, talent, time on the court, who knows? We've been stuck w/ stiffs like Magloire, Childs, McInnis. Don't think it would help this team much. -Petey

Maybe the full MLE for 3 or 4 years can lure someone good. Maybe? Please? Alright... I'll pray for another trade. Guess we can only get quality players if they are forced to play here!

Don't recall the Nets going after Bell w/ the full MLE offer? Or SAR? When even money, aren't there better options out there in terms of chances to win, or quality of life? I love NJ. But I'm sure most FA opt for the sun, or won't mind LA. -Petey

But that other guy in the picture looks pretty cool. Think we could get him?
Looks like no at this point, given the rookie salaries + you must be the MLE below the cap to be considered to have cap space. Right now at 51-52 million, given this year's cap was 55.6 million, don't think the Nets are considered under the cap, but they will be given an MLE automatically to spend. The team is under the luxury tax enough for Rat to consider spending it without making a salary dump move.
