Chris Long DE UVa. The Parcells/Groh connection may have been too strong anyway. At least, its not as cheesy as the Cameron/Ginn connection last yr. Dorsey's injury, I gather, is causing him to fall. GD IMO will be drafted by Oakland. He is the ideal replacment for Warren Sapp.
It was either going to be Chris or Glenn. I am not holding my breath that either will be available at #4. What makes you think that St. Louis will not take Dorsey at #2? I have them either taking C Long or Dorsey, whichever is there.
The ewes taking whichever DL that the phins don't is very likely. Though, I can see them deciding to go against the herd (pun intended) and take Jake Lomg as Orlando Pace's successor.
I think it's down to Chris Long, Jake Long, and Matt Ryan. If Ryan has a great pro day then it's going to be hard to pass up the QB. If he is good but not great, then Chris Long is probably their guy. I still think Jake Long has an outside chance because of the importance of the offensive line but he's probably a slim one.
I think its Long as well. Realistically, no one in this weak QB class should be considered that high but every year people push unfit QB's into the top of the first round for no apparent reason (think Alex Smith). I don't think Parcells will fall into that trap, just because the Dolphins need a quarterback. Remember the way he brought Tony Romo along. Also, I've listened to Parcells' press conferences enough times (my bro's a Cowboys fan) and if there's one thing he's always hammered home, its that he likes his defenses to be big and athletic (bigger players wear down offenses faster and get injured less often). I think that'll make him avoid Dorsey, even if it doesn't necessarily mean he'll be a bust.
The Boston College Pro Day is March 18th if any Matt Ryan lobbyists were wondering. I have a feeling especially with the signing of Green, Ryan isn't even going to be considered. I think the smart decision here would be to trade it but I've never been a fan of a team with the #1 pick unfortunately so I don't know whats going through your minds. The Dolphins need more than one player and they don't need to take on a fat contract of an unproven player. I thinbk they could get really really good value for it. This is a great defensive class.
I think they've been trying to trade the 1st pick for a while unsuccessfully. The ignored story right now is how undesirable that first pick is when there's no clearcut prospect to use it on. Salaries for first rounders have spiralled out of control and we've seen some very undeserving prospects get huge money.
I'll reiterate the fact I've read that Parcells & Co like Beck. I can live w/ McCown being a stopgap for '08 (only) if needs be. McCown can't be any worse than Feidler, Lemon, etc... can he?\ If Miami does draft a QB, I'd prefer it were Flacco (Delaware) or Henne (Michigan) in the 2nd or 3rd round. I could even live w/ Brian Brohm. Woodson & Ryan just seem to questionable to me. Dorsey's injury and questionable work ethic make I'm certain make him suspect in the eyes of Miami's brass. Besides drafting suspect DT sound like something the ewes have done. C. Long seems tempermentally & personality wise like a Parcells type player and then there is the Parcells/Groh connection.
My dream scenario is that Matt Ryan blows the Falcons away in his personal workout and they freak out becuase the Dolphins are threatening to take him and offer thier 1st and both thier seconds....then the Cowboys decide they really want McFadden and trade thier #1s plus thier 2nd for #3 overall....then Brohm falls to 28th and the Bears cant resist coming up to get him and send their 2nd and both 3rds for that picks....that would leave the Dolphins with something around the 22nd, 32nd, 35th, 44th, 50th, 55th, 57th, 64th, 75th, 90th and 96th pick of the draft....want to rebuild your roster in super turbo mode? Let Bill Parcells pick 11 times in the 1st 3 rounds....
