I saw this video for the first time today: **WARNING!** This video is extremely disturbing Video In the video is a US Marine throwing a puppy off of a cliff in Iraq. Nobody can say yet as to the authenticity, however it's a very disturbing video of human cruelty. The soldiers should be ashamed to represent America in such a way. However, after reading an incredible amount of comments and hearing about how upset people are, it brings up another point that I'd like to discuss here. Does anyone else think that it's absolutely ridiculous that although human beings die every single day in Iraq (and there are countless videos of this), it takes a video of an animal dying to ignite outrage? Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way condoning this video. But why do people sympathize more with animals? It makes no sense to me.
I don't think the outrage indicates that people have their priorities mixed up, but I actually think it shows how desensitized we have become to the senseless violence of war. Stuff like this catches us by surprise because there's no precedent for it, but we here about soldiers and civilians being killed every day. Its a sad fact, but I don't necessarily think it means people value animal lives more than human ones. Either way, this is absolutely disgusting.

I hope that mother fucker catches a bullet square in the face.. I don't give a **** if he is a US marine, I hope he catches a bullet right between the ****ing eyes, instead of those honorable men over there dying for us. Don't confuse me for an animal rights activist, either.
I don't think people are sympathizing more for the animal, it's just that was unnecessary and completely uncalled for. If he finds entertainment out of that, I don't want that cunt in my society. It would've been great if before he threw that puppy, he caught that bullet right in the ****ing head. I would've laughed my ass off. A bit twisted? Yes I am.

It just happened that this person was a soldier in iraq...but this was a video of some random truck driver doing it in Montana, I'd think the same thing...fuck that guy, he's a cruel piece of shit. There's still plenty of people who are upset about what's going on with the war. With the amount that it's dragged on, I'm sure there are plenty who have become less vocal about it. Maybe some are getting desensitized to it (to some extent). I'm sure if tons of puppies were getting thrown off cliffs and their were videos all over of it, over time I probably wouldn't react to it the same way as I do seeing it one time out of nowhere.

How do we know it was friendly fire, and not the case where the doggie was an insurgent. I'm just saying we should get all the facts so that we may form an objective opinion.

It is different when it's a beheading video. That is people doing it to people. Everyone has a brain that functions even if it is in a different way and that is what seperates us from animals. Killing an animal is okay when it's the means of life like food but killing an animal as a joke is dumb.
So I finally saw the video and I found it strange that the dogs voice was very clearly audible on the microphone of the handheld camera despite the distance away from it, and there was no observed change in volume or tone as the distance increased. Just putting that out there.
