Dont you guys think we need that to start thinking about rebuilding? we cant rebuild if we dont have the main piece to build around! isnt that simple logic? And if you say Devin Harris You are wrong. He s a good piece to have, a solid piece to the puzzle, but he is not one of the main pieces we need to become a championship caliber team once again.

    Any thoughts?

A franchise player is often found in the draft. Our team has young talent but we have no centerpeice like Dwight, LeBron or even a Oden.

We need to find one or we will just float around.

Agreed. We may stumble into him late in the lottery...whether it be through not making the playoffs; or through a trade.

Or, we could get lucky a la Jason Kidd. Hell, who knows...maybe Devin will develop into that franchise player.

If we manage to get a decent pick in the lottery, and OJ Mayo falls to us, does anyone think he'd be a franchise player? I don't watch much college ball, but I do his name thrown about as a talented young player.

I highly doubt Beasley will be in a Nets uniform. Infact, I can guarantee he won't.

I'm actually really hoping for OJ Mayo. We need shooting off the bench, an eventual replacement scoring 2-guard for Vince, and a player that won't cause a logjam with our PF/C and PG rotations. He's also the scoring guard that could compliment any possible FA that might come in 2010

ok... i kno oj mayo can score... but we would need to unload either jefferson or carter so mayo can come into a startin role... but is he really what he is all hyped up to be?

Well is the goal to simply draft a guy who is a starter for the sake of starting, or draft a guy who fits a need now and can be a franchise player once Vince leaves?

You don't have to trade your starters because you're afraid of having depth.

Kobe didn't start right off the bat. Infact, many players played behind other people before their own careers took off. Michael Redd and Rashard Lewis also come to mind.

He has to leave school for that to happen, which is far from a done deal.

I still think we have to wait for everything to unfold... like what position we end up at the end of the season, and then assume possible picks.
If we get a top 5 pick... then def not OJ, we can wait on him and probs get him with our Dallas pick. bt i doubted.

I been scouting Anthony randolph, and people are comparing him to Chris bosh, he can rebound, shoot, post up, block. and he is 18 years old. The only problem is he is kinda skinny, he needs to bulk u, but like i said hes only 18, he can do it.. i actually suggest we draft him.

The Nets' biggest problem is that they are in NBA purgatory. I know it well since I was a Warriors fan for many years. NBA purgatory is when a team is always good enough to not get a top 10 pick but bad enough to not make the playoffs and/or has a losing record. Its hard to get guys who have franchise-changing impact at 10-14, your team still sucks ass but not enough to where you can actually draft a player who will elevate the franchise.

I think at 10-14 the Nets would be extremely lucky to get OJ Mayo. Hes having a somewhat disappointing college season but it also seems like his game is completely built to succeed in the pros rather than the NCAAs. Hes got a sick shooting stroke, underrated defense, hes a pretty good passer for a guy who projects to be a SG and hes got a good handle. He doesn't penetrate consistently and I don't think hes that good of an athlete, definitely good enough for the NBA but hes not Dwyane Wade. He'll be a good player.

Outside of that if you're looking for a potential franchise player that late in the draft you're going to want to hope Anthony Randolph or Dorrell Wright fall. Maybe Hibbert if you guys want someone who could be a good post scorer but your frontcourt looks pretty full as is. Hendrix is another guy who may be able to be a go-to post scorer if his game translates to the NBA.

They really need to dump VC and RJ in the offseason and get a top 5 pick. Its extremely difficult to get a "franchise player" otherwise.

The high school rule screwed us. We are never going to get a 1 - 5 where the top freshman are often at and the rest are 21 years old. By the time they get playing time and are proven, they are in the middle like Devin Harris where it's hard to build around.

Our coach will not allow for progression of a young guy. Sean Williams to be dominate would have to be stuck playing a lot of minutes often like LaMarcus did this year. We are stuck playing Diop who is 27 along with Swift who is also older which is no good when we are going to miss the playoffs anyway.
