I've taken a road trip from Santiago up to the northern tip of Chile- coolest place we stopped was called Valle de la Luna. And a cruise down to the southern end, but I don't recall any land that was particularly memorable. A six hour boat ride up the Madre de Dios river in Peru to the research station in the rainforest there. If you've seen Galaxy Quest, you'll know it as the place where the little blue miners live.
I have been ringing handbells for my church for about 15 years now. My senior year in high school our choir toured Germany and had one stop in Paris. While there we stayed at the "Friends Hostel" right in the middle of the sex district.
