Icon Sport held a great night of fights on Saturday topped-off with local hero Kala Kolohe Hose winning the middleweight title vacated by an injured Robbie Lawler. Hose (6-1) withstood a furious first three or four minutes from Phil Baroni (10-9), who took the Hawaiian down several times and landed some big shots, including some soccer kicks and head stomps. Baroni couldn't finish Hose and drained his gas tank early. In the second round, Hose began to take over, with Baroni looking less and less capable of putting up a fight as the fight dragged on. By the fifth round Baroni was shaking from exhaustion and crumpled under pressure from the Hawaiian slugger, forcing the referee to stop the fight. If I had been Mark Coleman or another of Baroni's corner men, I would've thrown the towel in by the third round. Baroni's conditioning was non-existant. At one point he was warned for trying to scoot under the ring ropes, then later on a point was taken away for doing it again. He looked totally drained and outside of a take down or two, and a few looping punches, he did nothing from the second to fifth round but take punishment. Results Kala Kolohe Hose def. Glad to see him get beat up, even if he did it to himself</div> Virtually no name power on the card but a dozen or so fights and only two went to decision. Lots of good finishes.
