I've heard some comments that Never Back Down doesn't portray MMA in a positive light. Have any of you seen it or planning to see it?
Haven't seen it, but on MMA forums a few ppl who have seen it say; A: it's a rip off of the Karate Kid - new kid in town, beat up by martial arts (MMA) hotshot alpha male, Kid gets taught the martial art by foreigner teacher, kid beats up bad guy, gets the hot girl. B: The fights seens are actually well done. C: anyone who is ignorant of the sport will come away thinking MMA = throwing down a few mats in the street and fighting.. which it does not D: the acting his horrible. E: all in all the movie is bad for the sport.. which doesn't hurt major sports but hurts a somewhat violent sport that is trying to gain mainstream attention. I have not plans to see the movie myself though.
MMA fans were destined to hate this movie. Luckily, Redbelt (David Mamet) and Never Submit (Don Dunn) both look more promising.
Also, Brad, or whatever the actor that plays the main characters name is, has been acting tough in interviews. This will certainly inspire internet tough guys to call him out, helping to promote the bad movie.
