I have the same feeling as some other Celtics fans have, and think that Tony Allen's days in Boston are numbered. I think the absolute perfect replacement, and an upgrade altogether, would be landing Washington State's Kyle Weaver in this year's draft.

    Here's his DraftExpress profile: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Kyle-Weaver-1253/

I think he is just as good of an on-ball defender as Tony, but he's bigger, longer, and a much better ball handler. His outside shooting is relatively equal to Tony's right now.

I believe he's going to be an excellent role player in the NBA. He is the perfect replacement for Tony Allen, and I think he can realistically be available at #30. If not, I think he's worth trading up a couple slots for.

And no, Celtic Fan, this isn't me trying to hit another "home run prediction" like Marcus Williams of Arizona. Weaver is a player and a guy that can contribute now.

    Your thoughts?

Since he is a Senior, he is going to get pushed down the draft board. I believe he'll be a good pro and a team like Boston where he won't have to have a big role right away would be a good fit for him.

I actually like him. I don't think he'll be a great scorer, or even a good one at that, but the guy has good size to defend, and a good all around game.

He wouldn't have to be a big scorer, and any team that asks him to at the pro level would be disappointed. But, Tony Allen is valuable to this team because he is our best on-ball perimeter defender and he's an excellent slasher. Weaver is that, but he's longer, taller, and like I said a much better ball handler. Tony Allen is a horrific ball handler and his middle name is turnover.

When we go small, which Doc likes to do, I think Weaver stands a better chance at defending athletic 3's than Tony does. Tony is about 6'4'' with shoes on, Weaver is closer to 6'6'' and longer.

Also, adding to cpaw's point about him being a senior - that's even more of a plus. He's a senior on one of the best defensive teams in college basketball, and has a lot of experience. We really don't have room for a real project on this roster. Pruitt is enough. We need to win now and make sure the guys on our bench are ready to contribute should an injury take place. Weaver can do that.

apparently he's a solid on-ball defender and a poor shooter. His scouting report sounds a bit like Bobby Jones and Antoine Wright--you could have either of them in the off-season, also.

Neither Bobby Jones nor Antonie Wright can handle the ball like Weaver. Both Wright and Jones lack the ability to create their own shot off the dribble or beat their man by slashing.

Possibly. All I know about him is what I've read in a few discrete reports, and that was about a month ago.

Weaver is going to be a very good role player in the NBA. While he isnt a great shooter he can shoot and score better than Wright and in some cases Tony Allen. Good players have the knack of making things look easy, that is exactly what Weaver does on both ends of the floor.

That wasn't me talking about Marcus Williams. I said I didn't like Hawes and Glen Davis. I did say Davis would put for effort for a couple of years then then stop staying in shape though.

Hawes could still turn into something but right now he's playing on a bad Kings team and getting 10 mins/game.

as for this kid, haven't seen hardly any college ball this year sooo no comment. Best player available at #30 IMO.
