<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Frank has used him more as a combo guard since Harris' arrival, pairing him with the starter in the second and fourth quarters. Williams welcomes the floor time. "But I didn't understand why it didn't happen with Jay, either," he added. "A lot of times last year when we played together, it seemed like it worked. And they didn't try it as much this year. I don't know if it's because I was coming back from injury, I don't know." Undoubtedly, it's related to his inability to sustain the intensity a team needs off the bench. Darrell Armstrong put it this way recently: "Marcus is a laid-back kid," the veteran point guard said. "To his defense, he's still young, still enjoying the fruit of things going on around him. But that youth has got to grow up fast. I don't care if you don't love the game, this is your livelihood. You have to go out and prove that you're a worthy guard every night -- not that you just belong, but that you're a starter." "I've been hearing that for a long time," Williams said of the intensity rap. "I think it's because I'm not a rah-rah guy that jumps up and down every possession, slaps guys on the butt all the time. A lot of those guys, that's just their personality. I'm not a rah-rah guy. Darrell's that way. "It's hard to change someone to yell all the time. I mean, I'm motivated within myself. I know my limits, I know what I can and can't do. So I stay within what I can do to help the team, not jumping up and down, 'Ahhh, let's go, let's go!' That's never been one of my characteristics."</div> Netsdaily.com He needs a heart. Keep Working, Marcus - Al Iannazzone - In the 'Zzone NBA 101 - Fred Kerber - Nets Blog
I've seen this - Marcus seems really "chill". Sometimes, it seems like he doesn't have 100% energy...and I can't tell if he's not giving effort, or if it's just cause that's the way he plays. Oh well, either way, Devin's better.

Marcus just wants to play the game without showing emotion. That's fine by me, as long as he plays well.
yeah hes way to chill. he needs to get out of that superstar status that hes definetly not in and get real. he might chill his way to the rookie pit. i understand though. but i mean thats just dumb. sounds like hes not appreciating being in the nba
I don't think anyone should be worried about his intensity from a personality standpoint, but more of intensity from an effort standpoint. To this end, I might be worried that he's not enthusiastic to push himself outside his shell, and is content without trying to play outside his limits. To his defense, I've noticed that he's playing smarter basketball, and doesn't seem to be turning the ball over as much. He's not forcing things like he used to.

The last two sentences I think he's been very erratic with. He's either playing smart and making the right plays or he goes back to pounding the ball and launching stupid shots like it was a game of one-on-one. If he cut out the later he would be a much better and consistant player. Jefferson made a comment last night about the young guys sticking with the game plan and I think that could be the biggest issue we have over the past month or so. We have a lot of young guys and it's a subtle thing we probably don't even see unless it's pointed out to us since we never know what they are suppose to be doing.
Now I don't know what's wrong with Marcus, but I'm comfortable with my sexuality and I love slapping dues asses! -Petey
The problem is team unity. They are together 24/7 for almost the entire year and it's definately not gay being brothers from another mother. Spurs admit they love each other. They are like family pretty much and that is what we need.

But to push away his own teamate when he was trying to motivate him... thts not good team chemistry. Marcus does not nessesarily need to react to RJ jupping around and tht rah rah shit.. but dont bitch abt Darrel showing some emotion.. and dont push away your teamate... BTW, i wont be saying any of this if he was playing good basketball... If he likes to be a loner but he plays well its okay.. i accept.. but he aint consistant enough and it is obvious in 2nd quaters the other team usually goes on a run because marcus isnt setting the tempo for the nets... he dribbles to much and does what he wants but does not motivate and setup the team for a run..
