<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Swingman Ira Newble has decided to sign a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, choosing them over the Cavs. A source said the Cavs offered Newble a spot on the team Wednesday, but the two sides could not agree on certain terms of his return. The Cavs traded Newble to the Seattle SuperSonics last month, but never gave away his locker. Newble was eligible to rejoin the Cavs on Tuesday. The Cavs still have one open roster spot that they may fill by early next week.</div> Ira Newble to Lakers I like this signing, if it is true. He's a strong, defensive minded swing man who could potentially steal minutes from Walton

Its always good to have a 6'7 veteran swingman who can play great defense, he can defend as tenaciously as he wants since he nor the team really cares if he fouls out. Hes not the greateast athlete but hes a hard worker and hes a crafty veteran. Throw him on T-Mac, Ginobili, Peja, Josh Howard, Stephen Jackson, Melo (if he gets in), etc. and he'll make them work for their points. With Newble/Ariza you have a very good perimeter defender and you can let Kobe focus on offense until the end of the game where you sub in a better offensive SF and let Kobe play D on their best wing player.
Would Ariza be out for the playoffs? He'd be good insurance if Ariza's out, as an athletic perimeter defender. Good signing.
Well they say Ariza will be back during the playoffs, but there's no telling what type of game shape he will be in. Anyways, I love this signing. Newble isn't much offensively, but from what I've heard, he's a tough defender, and he's not afraid of contact. Maybe he will be that "enforcer" we are looking for? Either way, he cannot be any worse than Luke Walton ^ dude is a OG

He is a hard worker but I've seen this dude get burnt by the east guards, I don't expect him to be a contributor in the West where the level of talent is so much greater.
Well either way he cannot be any worse than Luke Walton. If he steals Walton's minutes, then this signing is a major plus
http://sportstwo.com/NBA/Story/NBA/1894061 Lakers sign F Newble to 10-day deal Friday, March 21, 2008 02:34 PM EL SEGUNDO, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers on Friday signed free agent forward Ira Newble to a 10-day contract. Newble has played for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Seattle SuperSonics this season, averaging 4.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 15.5 minutes in 43 games. In 374 career games, the eighth-year journeyman is averaging 5.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 20.4 minutes.
Newble, the former Cleveland Cav, signed his 10-day contract Friday and immediately provided great material for reporters when asked to compared LeBron James with Kobe Bryant. “You know what? Kobe’s better, and if you ask LeBron, he’ll tell you Kobe’s better,” Newble said. Newble cited Bryant’s “tenacity for the game” and his defense as superior areas when compared to James. http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2008/03/...er-than-lebron/

When I first saw him enter the game, I thought, oh snap! It's that dude from Barbershop! I guess they look somewhat similar. They both have the same pretty green eyes, if you can get a close up. I couldn't really find a good pic of Newble (he seems bloated in the pic), but if you saw the game, you'll know what I'm talking about (hopefully)
