If my math is correct, Nelson needs 59 more wins to pass Lenny Wilkins. Assuming the Ws can win 9 of their remaining 15, he'll need another 50 win season next season. Does anyone know if playoffs count toward his win total? It would be nice to knock that number down a bit so he can get the record next year.

I don't think playoff wins count, I'll try to find a link that confirms it.

Is Don Nelson coming back next season? I had the notion from his hesitance of coming back this season, that this would be his last season. Perhaps it depends on what the team does during the offseason. I don't think he wants to do a reconstruction/development season next year. I think he wants to compete for the league championship.

Nelson competing for a championship with his coaching style would be next to impossible... that is... unless he goes back to his Bucks days and starts preaching defense. I'm sure if he had a Shaq or a Duncan he could potentially seal the deal. Coaches are supposed to adjust to the other team and in game situations based on what he's got and I think Nelson can do that. He just doesn't trust very much, but for the most part he sees things very accurately in terms of player talent. We got a lot of good small guys, but no big man stars as of yet. We need presence and authority in the paint... and having the quicker, shotblocking version of Jeff Foster ain't enough. We got to keep building...

The Warriors don't have much except for some promise at pg/pf/c positions. We got the real deal in the SF position in terms of an awesome role player, but I'm not sure if we have any championship type stars or guys who can lock down the starting positions in the perimeter both offensively and defensively. Monta Ellis at shooting guard just gives up way too much defense, Baron Davis is good and all but lately he's starting to dominate the ball a la Marbury/Steve Francis... which I hate and is the reason for why teams lose when these players overshoot the ball at sucky %'s. Andris Biedrins is too light to bang inside with anyone that's a legit center. He needs to become a power forward at some point, or gain more weight or else he's going to get outmuscled frequently just like how Pau Gasol gets beaten up when he tries to play center. I think he can get bigger eventually, but I think there's got to be incentive for him like involving him more in halfcourt play. The key is the center position or at least a power forward that can emulate some center but plays power forward. If we have that defensive presence inside, it will affect the way teams plays us inside and how they play us defensively in return. If that piece is constantly missing, we're always going to be on the bubble of the 7th or 8th spots, or miss the playoffs entirely. It's like playing chess without a queen or a knight piece. It just makes it that much harder to win. We're so limited in how our strategy goes...

sigh... C'mon Mullin! We need a big man and more of them! And we need a real 6'6 shooting guard if Azu ain't consistent offensively or Bel ain't ready defensively or offensively.
