How would you rank the players of the year. Mine is: 1. Michael Beasley- He had better stats than Durant who ran away with it last year. He was almost impossible to guard scoring 26.5 PPG. 2. Tyler Hansborugh- Hes a good player but without him Carolina could still win most of their games. 3. Stephon Curry- He is the best guard and 3 point threat in the nation. He avgs 25.1 PPG and tied for first for in 3 pointers made. If he avgs 99 3 pointers the next two seasons he will break JJ Redicks all time record. He had 122 as a frosh and 139 as a sophmore, so unless he declares early or has a big injury he will break the record. 4. DJ Augustin- He has had a good year avg almost 20 ppg and 5.7 apg.
I remember reading about Curry in Slam a while ago. It was a good article, and I tried to make a mental note to follow him during the season...but, typical me, it completely slipped my mind. No diss on Curry, though, I'd put Augustin ahead of him. He's such a good player, and I've had the pleasure of being able to watch him multiple times as he tears apart the competition. Anyways, for Player of the Year, I'd choose Beasely...he's such a good player, so athletic and all over the court. I've only watched him one and a half games, but he impressed me a lot in that time. Plus, the fact that he's been consistently tearing it up the whole season...he's Player of the Year in my mind. (It's also worth mentioning that I can't stand Hansbrough, so there is some bias.)

You guys didn't know who Stephen Curry was at lunch time today and now you're saying hes the third best player in the country. Nice player, scorer specifically, but hes not quite there yet. Its gotta be either Beasley or Hansbrough. Probably depends how much value you put on wins. I personally take "Player of the Year" differently than "Most Valuable Player". Most valuable indicates importance and well, value, to ones' team, which would imply that the teams is a good team. Clearly UNC > Kansas St. That being said, "Player of the Year" would indicate that selections should be made on an individual basis with little or no regard to team success. I would probably say Beasly is the PoY. Then again freshman almost never win (was Durant the first?). If the race is close enough the junior could get the edge due to seniority.

Also one of my friends in my senior class is a PG on Davidson and his dad is the head coach Bob Mckillop. So I have seen a lot of Curry over the last three years.
Michael Beasley - 26 ppg 12 rpg Kevin Durant - 25 ppg 11 rpg Beasley in a landslide, or at least thats how it should be.
Curry had another impressive performance with 30 points against one of the top defenses which helps his cause for the #3 spot against Augustin. I had to laugh really hard when Augustin had the worst air ball I have every seen on a clutch free throw it missed by 3 feet.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is run much like any other awards system where the voting is done before the postseason? If that's the case, Curry has no chance. Regardless of how amazing he's been this year scoring the ball, he's got no chance. It's a two man race between Hansborough and Beasley. Personally, I give it to Hansborough. His team was consistent all year and they won 30something games in what might be the toughest conference in basketball.

Last year dont mean nothing.
One thing you might want to point out with Durant though is that his team went 25-10 including 12-4 in Big 12 play. Kansas State didn't even break 20 wins this year.

That was a 4 seed /13 seed game where Davidson was down by 1 point at halftime. He isn't some unknown player.

Or (scoring the game winning point vs. Marquette) POTY! (after the game is over) NO WAIT I MEANT HANSBROUGH
I'll give credit where it's due. Curry has been crazy good in the tourney this year and he's carrying Davidson on his back right now. Still though, it's not enough to warrant him in POY honors.
Wow, people are really overrating Stephen Curry now. Sure, he's a good scorer and he has been dynamite over the past few weeks, but like Run BJM said - most of us barely knew anything about him before the tournament started. Player of the year? Not even close. I would give it to Michael Beasley. If you give it to Kevin Durant last year, you have to give it to Beasley this year. Beasley is more versatile than Durant and had an even better freshman season than him (whether you look at stats or not). Durant's year was just more highlighted because we hadn't seen a freshman do that in recent years. I like Hansbrough a lot and he indeed is the best player on one of the top teams in the country (arguably the best), but Michael Beasley is the best individual player in the country.
The Official finalists for the Naismith are: Michael Beasley 26.5 PPG 12.5 RPG Tyler Hansborough 23.1 PPG and 10.5 RPG Chris Douglas-Roberts 17.3 PPG Kevin Love 17.4 PPG and 11 RPG And I didnt think that Curry should win the Player of the Year I just thought he should finish 3rd, so it would help him next year if he returns like the Heisman.
