Greg Echenique, four star prospect and top 5 center nationally, has committed to Rutgers after visiting the school with his parents from Venezuela on Thursday. This is a huge pick up and further proof of how terrific a recruiter FHJ is. Three star power forward, Austin Johnson, has also committed to RU. He would have been in the 2008 class had it not been for academic problems. They join fellow four star SF/PF Dane Miller from New York in the Class of 2009. Ending that class with Dom Cheek would be a dream come true. Echenique chose Rutgers over Duke, Villanova, and Memphis. Johnson chose RU over Nova, Boston College, and Seton Hall.

ESPN just released some 2009 prospect rankings, and Greg landed at #9 in the nation. Quite high if you ask me, but I'm not complaining. Somewhere between 25-35 would be a little more accurate, IMO.

Nique was bumped to a five star on scout. There are rumors swirling that he may be enrolling at RU for this year and not 2009, joining Rosario, Pat Jackson, and Christian Morris. That could potentially influence Ebanks, but I doubt it happens.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Greg Echenique, the St. Benedict's Prep basketball star who recently made an oral commitment to play at Rutgers University starting in the fall of 2009, might be suiting up for the Scarlet Knights sooner than anybody thought.

The 6-foot-9, 260-pound Echenique is listed as a junior but is expected to graduate this spring because he completed a year of high school in Venezuela before moving to the U.S. Then he will have three options:

Remain at St. Benedict and play on the school's postgraduate team next year.

Enroll in Rutgers for the Fall 2008 team and redshirt.

Enroll in Rutgers for the Fall 2008 and play for the Scarlet Knights right away.

A source close to the program said the chances are "pretty good" that Echenique will be at Rutgers — either as a redshirt or in uniform — in the fall. That would elevate the Scarlet Knights' incoming recruiting class, which includes McDonald's All-American guard Mike Rosario of St. Anthony, to blockbuster status.

Echenique averaged 11.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game this past winter for St. Benedict's, which finished the season with a 24-1 record. He is ranked the No. 45 player in the Class of 2009 by rivals.com, including No. 5 among centers.</div>

    This would be awesome.

Echenique will be suiting up for the team next year. Hot damn

That gives us a 2008 recruiting class of:
    Mike Rosario (McDonald's AA)
    Greg Echenique
    Patrick Jackson
    Christian Morris

    Hot damn, indeed.
