Okay, so now that the home-and-home with the Lakers is done with, what are your predictions the rest of the way? Denver seems to be going strong and I wouldn't be surprised to see them make the playoffs and Dallas falling out...or the Warriors. Who knows.

Here's the rest of the schedule...what's your prediction? Here are mine...

    Thu 27 vs Portland - W
    Sat 29 @ Denver - L
    Sun 30 vs Dallas - W
    Tue 01 @ San Antonio - L
    Wed 02 @ Dallas - W
    Fri 04 @ Memphis - W
    Sun 06 @ New Orleans - L
    Tue 08 vs Sacramento - W
    Thu 10 vs Denver - W
    Sat 12 vs LA Clippers - W
    Mon 14 @ Phoenix - L
    Wed 16 vs Seattle - W

    8 - 4

I have us giving up the 8th spot to Denver with a loss this Saturday in Denver and I hope to regain it against Dallas the next day, hopefully ousting them for the time being. We have this tendency of winning then losing (not being able to get on a win streak) so I see us losing at San Antonio, who is also struggling, but they remember they lost to us last time. Next game should be a bounce back against the Dirk-less Mavs, then win against Memphis. The rest of the way we should be able to win the rest of the home games with a loss at Phoenix. But, I'm thinking the Warriors will put up a good fight against Phoenix since it's the second to last game and since we lost to them last time. It depends where we are positioned in the playoff race. If the game is a deciding factor in us making the playoffs, I have to say we will win.

BTW, I'm going to the 4/10 Denver game. My gf is a huge Carmelo fan so I got tickets in Section A5. I had to sell half my life for the tickets but hey, anything for your love, right?

That seems about right, however the Warriors are quite capable of dropping some of those games versus sub-.500 teams like Memphis, Clips, or Seattle, and I don't think Portland is a lock by any means (they already beat us twice this year). Beating Dallas twice might be more difficult than it would seem as well, even without Nowitzky. My gut feeling is they will sneak in at #8 again, behind Denver and ahead of Dallas. I think you are right that they will win games at the end if they're decisive to a playoff berth. But I am nervous, very nervous. So many losses this year they should have won but came out lazy, tired, disinterested, let their egos override their basketball judgement, whatever, that could come back to haunt them.

I refused to make predictions all of last season and I'm sticking to that. All I know is that our fate is in our own hands. If we get it done against Denver and Dallas we're in, if not, we're out. Each win/loss there separates us and them by a full game. Gotta take most of those games.

I believe in our guys coming through when it matters.

Like many athletes and fans, I'm superstitious about making such early predictions. I tend to think whatever the estimated outcome will be, will have the opposite effect. I think we won't make the playoffs.

That's all right if his girlfriend went to Syracuse or grew up in Denver or their best friends or family got them started with that as their first player/team.

I dated a girl who liked the lakers because her ex-boyfriend got her started with that team. Now that was unacceptable. You can bet I dumped her sorry ass. That... and she couldn't see why I liked a perennial losing team that got me upset all the time. But, I dumped her, not the other way around. Yeah...

Lol you're still on that anti-Carmelo wagon? I still remember when you had that funny sig about me agreeing with you on Anthony.

Yeah I'm still a Carmelo hater but not as much as before. I don;t like "superstars" who do literally nothing to hlep their team win but score; Carmelo, Dirk, Arenas, Redd, etc. They don't pass, make teammates better, play defense, rebound well for their positions, etc. etc. Arenas and Carmelo in particular are far too cocky and annoying.

Those really were the days LOL. I remember it was right after Carmelo's cheap-shot on Mardy Collins (I think, it was someone on the Knicks for sure though) and we agreed that he was a cheap-shotting bitch. This was just after a series of random aimless arguments we had for weeks on certain threads (Wilt's 100 pts vs. Kobe's 81 pts comes to mind). Good times.

I totally know what you mean. I just don't like inefficient players that hog all the shots. Melo is getting better and I'm glad he's on the Olympic team, but sometimes I get annoyed with his turnovers and his shot selection. He can pass all right, but he's a ball hog at times. He rebounds well. His defense can be sketchball. Arenas, same thing. He rebounds well for his position, assists, but he turns the ball over and he takes some really bad, early shots. Plus, he needs to knock the agent zero crap. I like Dirk as the first big player in a while to be good at handling the ball, shooting it, dribbling it, and also do well at rebounding and blocking shots like a big man. But, like most finesse big men, they tend to rely on setting the tone on the perimeter rather than getting deep position inside. Defenses want big men like that to put the ball on the floor or shoot it when they're in a funk. Big men like him ought to go inside on the block to set perimeter players up from the inside out. He's not comfortable in doing that, not even as good as Rasheed Wallace, Pau, or Chris Bosh who aren't really burly like Shaq or Duncan or Brand.

Very. They had a big win over Houston yesterday too. But with Denver losing and Dallas winning, it seems pretty damn critical to win this game against SA. We'll see. I hate that it's not on TV. Is this the first time this season a game hasn't been televised locally or nationally?

I think it is the first untelevised game. NBA.com has it being on "KENS HD" for local tv, which I guess must be something in SA. That stinks. Why don't they skip Memphis or Atlanta or something instead of SA? Oh well, looks like it'll be KNBR...it's still going to be on radio, isn't it? Then again, it's GS playing in SA, it could be very ugly and maybe it's best that it's not televised. Biedrins has to come up big tonight like he did last year in that one win in SA (18 pts, 15 reb, 4 ast, 6 blk, 1 stl, 1 to).

Well if anyone still had any illusions that San Antonio wouldn't be the worst playoff matchup for the Warriors, that pretty much puts that to rest. I wouldn't bet on the Warriors winning that series if you gave me 1,000:1 odds. Unfortunately it's looking quite possible the Warriors would draw the Spurs in the first round, if they even make the playoffs.

If we have to go against perimeter and interior defense, plus rebounding, plus inside scoring, plus dribble penetration all at once, we're pretty much dead anyway.

The Warriors would essentially have to shoot well enough to open up the lane in the half court and cause enough deflections to go to transition offense. If we make the playoffs, I hope it is against another running team.

If we have to deal with a team with a tandem of big players inside, I don't like our chances at all. A lot of the top teams in the West have a good center and a power forward + a good one-on-one guard that can pass and play D. We have one good center and a bunch of small forwards and two good one-on-one guards, one of which can play D. I

'm not sure how Houston was winning, but I'd rather play them and Dallas. There's also a possibility that Dallas might not make it... If we have to go to the playoffs against any of the other teams besides Houston, Lakers and maybe Denver, I don't like it... The top 2: New Orleans and San Antonio are scary. I think New Orleans is very hard for the W's because Paul can force a lot of turnovers and Tyson Chandler could limit buckets inside while David West and Peja could provide in the inside outside threats which make it hard to cover the halfcourt. I greatly value the presence of big players who can get deep position in the paint and force guards to think about getting blocked inside. But our game is tailored to put pressure on the ball with zone defenses and traps... It's very risky against guys who can camp inside and shoot their way out.

We don't put a body on guys or cover the arc, we're just dead. Defense is such a gamble for us and offensively, it's like that way if we don't drive the ball or move off the ball. It's probably one reason why analysts don't think much of the Warriors besides the individual play of maybe 3 or 4 players.

How about this for somebody's prediction: There will be a need for a tiebreaker.

If so, those tied bottom playoff teams will have to break the tie based on their records in
    going against each other
    division record
    conference record
record versus the other playoff teams (first in the same conference, then in opposing conference)

If there is a 3 way tie that'd be even funnier.

I posted this in the West playoff picture thread in NBA General

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In the battle for 7 & 8 it is worth noting that Dallas has the tie breaker on Golden State and Denver has the tie breaker on Dallas. Golden State still has the chance to pull even with Denver which would allow them to go to the next tie breaker of Conference record.

For both Golden State and Denver, all of their remaining games are Conference games.
    Golden State: 25-20 w/ 7 remaining
    Denver: 27-18 w/ 7 remaining

This means Golden State is not only 1 game down in the standings to Denver, but they are 2 games down in the Conference record tie breaker. Therefore, if Golden State and Denver end the season tied, Denver would have the tie breaker as they will have a better Conference record.

Net result: Denver has a tie breaker advantage over both Dallas and Golden State and Golden State would lose a tie breaker to either Denver or Dallas. Golden State has to finish with a better record than at least one of Dallas and Denver or they will be out of the playoffs.</div>
