How can only 5 teams out of 30 have losing records in the NHL???

All have won at least 30 games. Is it an overtime thing?

There are 14 teams with losing records. The column labeled "OTL" stands for "Overtime Losses".

The reason they are listed separatly is that the NHL thinks it's a good idea to give teams a point in the standings for losing in OT or a shootout.
